Made some comments at your other post.
your jigs look fantastic tale is a little bit long for me but that is up to the individual tire tried to keep your wrap of Chanel even with the Barb of your hook otherwise you did a fantastic job.
Pretty good for a first tie, you will be surpised how your consistency will improve as you continue. Takes practice to find your nick and what works for you. Main thing is will it catch fish! My first tie was so ugly to me, I have improved drastically but the fish didn't care. Here is that ugly first tie and my first time fishing with a jig that I made myself.

It's a good feeling when your first tie works, meat on the hook is the goal!
Look good but X2 on the tail but hey let the fish tell you. But definetly agree on the chennile being too far down - you don't want to cut down your hooking percentage with the chenille so far down.
Now go catch some fish!!!!!!!!!! and after the first one on your own tie!! stick it in your pocket and save it, it will always bring back the day!!!!!!
Keep em coming!!
sometimes when you're tying jigs you make mistakes and probably they are the best to catch fish with . I try to enjoy myself when we are tying jigs so we do a lot of experimenting with different color combinations is you probably will never know what will ever work into you try it so relax and take it easy and enjoy the hobby try to remember this is for your enjoyment and things will go a lot smoother us guys here are here to help if you need us in boy there is a ton information on this board.
Shorten the tie to 1/8th to 1/4" wide and add some color to the tail. Shorten the tail to about 1/2 to 3/4" past the hook.
Tie some gnats too, jig hook without the lead.
My 4 best catchers have been hair gnats, Pink, Pink and Chart., Orange, Orange and Chart. With black nylon thread from the fabric store.
Attachment 133217Hopefully this one is a little better than the others. You really can't see the black marabou that is under the flash on the bottom side of the jig. Well any ways. I am having a ball playing with these things and looking at all of the photos of everyone else's jigs. :) Thanks for looking, Bobo
Make the tail length the way you like it because the crappie will eat them! Mine have always been a bit longer than most and my jigs catch a lot of fish for me and many customers I have had the prevailing to tie for.
The thing I am having the most problem with now is stacking enough marabou for the tail feathes. LOL I either have it way to short or I leave the stem in it. hehehehe I am having a ball trying new things in this new hobby, even though my hands hurt it is a good kind of hurt. I would rather do this than have to squeeze one of those balls for physical therapy. Skip, Thanks for taking the time to answer all of these post. That thank you goes out to all of the others that have also pm'd me or answered directly to this thread or the other. I may be adding some more pics to this thread as I tie more jigs if everyone thinks that would be cool. Thanks for all of the help folks, Bobo
I will soon see what I can send you to help a little with some materials.
Cool jigs. I was just thinking to my self about learning how to tie jigs. The only thing that bothers me, I would get tired of jumping in the lake every time I got hung up to retrieve my jig..lol
A pic of a couple of jigs that I have done over the last couple of days. I am still toying around but I need to use less material on the tails I think. Thanks for looking, Attachment 133435
Those are looking good BoBo!
Attachment 134243 This is a jig that I made tonight. A huge thank you goes out to Bob's Jigs out of Oregon. He surprised me with a care package that included a bunch of these little heads along with a whole bunch of other goodies.
1/64 oz. jig head, black with silver eyes, black mini-chenille body, fl. pink marabou for the tail.
Your welcome Bobo. I would suggest when you post more jigs that you start a new thread so the comments will be just about the new ones. It's up to you though and if you prefer posting more pics here then do that.
Haven't seen one that wldnt catch a mess. All really great jigs! And NOT just bc they're your first. They're really good.
How do YOU fish?
Meaning your style?
Tie your jigs to fit you're style.
You a single pole guy probing structure… a cast n retrieve guy… or a long liner…a spider rigger? Or all of the above.
Diff things work slightly better for each style, in my opinion. But if fish are on, they're on and you're jigs'll be money.
To give you an idea how I fish. Today we took the boat out to an engine restricted lake that is also a trout fishing area during trout season. We got back in the creek a ways, cast out a couple of larger poles with hot dogs pieces on the hooks soaked in mensed garlic. Then I broke out an ultra lite rod and started playing with panfish spoons and jigs. We ended up getting a decent size catfish and several sunfish, in about half an hour to an hour. It was a great way to spend a morning. Bobo P.S. Thanks for the compliments on the jigs. I have gotten to where I really enjoy messing around with them.
Been watching your jig tying from the first jig pic to your last jig pics. You are improving nicely with the over all tying of the jigs. Each one of your tyes will catch fish and with each jig you will get better. Nice tying and welcome to this craft.
Each lake is a little different, you need to find out what colors work best for each body of water you fish. Sometimes the same colors will work from lake to lake but each lake will have a color that just out fishes the others.
Have fun with your tying. Your materials will build up and you will never have enough. LOL there are always more you will want. PM me your address and I'll send you a few things also.
