Hey boarbuster, The 2 cheapest places i have seen is crazyanglertackle.com and grandpabobscustomjigs.com
For jigheads, i know grousefly sells them for 10 bucks per 100, which is a great deal.
The chenille i like to use is the newage type of chenille. It has all kinds of cool wacky colors.
For feathers you want marabou and/or hackle. Cut the marabou off the stem.
For hair, you can use all kinds of hair, bucktail, calf tail (kiptail), Squirrel tail... you get the picture.
For thread get 140 or 210 denier flat waxed tying thread. OR monofilament thread.
You can also check out barlows, jannsnetcraft, and lurepartsonline.
Lure parts online has rubber legs 2.99 per 5ft strips. 3-6 inches in height.
For flash get flashabou or krystal flash, angel hair is too messy.
Hope i could help,
~Nick
Go with crazy angler. GpaBobs service has gone waaaY down.
As far as jig heads, hard to beat Ron Don @ LABAITS.
Crazy Angler quick service, good price, great people!!!!
ebay
100% nylon thread from the fabric store.
Cheapest clear finger nail polish you can find.
micro, i had a friend order from gpa bobs and he got his stuff in 9 days. he had 3 chenilles backordered, but other than that, all went smoothly.
I saw that on the other board. That's 1 good in the last 20 I've read about. If its improving I'm glad bc I appreciate small business and his prices are good. But many complaints. Majority rules.
Know guys waiting on year old stuff.
Tried to justify it to myself and heard there was some health issues.
Gotta shut it down a minute when there's those problems.
Hopefully they get their back orders one day. If the items were out, to me, they shldve been updated on site prior.
I wish them the best, but am leery.
What brand of trying vice would be the best. I do not remember the brand I saw on here but the person using it said it had alot of features that some people did not really understand how to use yet. He also said it was not cheap.

I got one like this for "buy now" with free shipping for $35. Sportsman's warehouse has one like it for $37. plus tax. So I waited the week for shipping.
Fly Tying Vise | eBay
Just know this is a very addictive hobby and you will spend over time a lot more than you ever thought. Then on he positive side this hobby is a great one and also one you can do for so many years. Also nothing like tying a jig and for the first time catching a fish on a jig you tied!
I handle Peak Vises, but there are a lot of choices out there and just depends on what you want. I tie on a Nor-Vise and love it for a lot of reasons, but some don't care for the different style, however I think most love it just like I do. Also if your ever going to tie flies the Nor even has more advantages. The Peak is the best vise under $150 even if just barely under the $150 price tag. If you want to read up on vises here is a good link even if it's a few years old now, the Ohio guys did an excellent study of all the vises.
Fly Tying Vises In-Depth Review by Fly Fish Ohio!
seen lots of guys buy a cheap vise and it break or they just didnt like it and if they move on to a good vise then they see the light, but some may even quit which is a shame, but it is what it is!
I had my 20 dollar c clamp break, as a result of trying to tighten it to much. my dad fixed it by screwing it to my dresser. i hope to get a PEAK in november or December.
Crazyangler for supplies and if you can afford one the best and Great crappie legend on our home waters talked me into buying a portable vise you can use to tye on the water or at camp!!! The crappie will hit the color you only have ONE OF!! White River fly shop at Bass Pro has them!!!! Hope this helps!! Thanks Meatgetter!!!
boarbuster - my first reaction is one the gang has heard before!!!!! RUN, RUN FAST and don't look back!!!!!!!! Don't come to the dark side!!!!!!!LOL
As everyone has said it's a very addictive hobby!!!!! As some of us tie flies we had lots of the hairs and feathers, and a bunch of us have been pouring jigs for 30+yeas.
Materials:
Crazy Angler
Lure Parts Online
Janns
Hook and Hackle company
if you're a hunter - learn how to take care of the skins or how to pluck the feathers and wash and treat them, you'll be glad you did.
Myself unless Grandpa Bobs gets the order problems solved I won't order again.
Jig heads (If you don't want to pour your own)
Grousefly, Pondhopper, RonDon at LA baits, TNT tackle,
Vise - I started on an Old herters, went to a Thompson Model A and now have a Dyna-King Kingfisher. I know alot of folks have rotary feature but I'm used to the regular style vise and spend my money on other materials. If I ever think about getting a rotary I'll take a good long look at the Peak.
Theres some really good info in the stickys at the top of the board here:

I have ordered from both crazyanglertackle and grandpabobs didn't have any problems with either... Tying is a fun hobby you will enjoy it and lots of great people on here to help!
your going to hate it .................. you will be hooked and broke LOL after that you are going to love it, its a blast and when you catch fish on your own ties the smile that comes over you on the inside and on the outside will be priceless, there are a lot of guys on here that sell some great jig heads and all have great prices or you can do like I did and buy a pot, lead, powder paint, molds, hooks and a fluid bed and really go over board .......... whichever way you go welcome to the addiction oh buy the best vise you can afford, my next is the nor- vise system
Tie some gnats too.
I will also tell you welcome to the addiction. Handle all the vises you can before you buy. BPS handles a few and some legwork will pay off on this in a big way. Ebay has some deals sometimes, but it's still ebay and you can't handle before you buy. A rotating vise is a plus, and I use mine every time I tie, as in wrapping chenille. Lots of quality vises, and lots of cheap look a likes. With a good vise, it's money in the bank. Should you change your mind and want out, you can sell it and recover the majority of the investment, not so with cheaper ones. I started with Maribou and became comfortable with that and moved on from there. You'll never stop learning with this or saying "Wow, I never thought of that."
It's like having a new lover. Once the new wears off, you begin to wonder "What the hell have I done?"
