More Walleye Heads With Eyes
-
Wow those are fishy looking! Nice job.
-
Cool looks on the diff eyes with the two coat system. Doing half n half candies over the vein makes it even more fun, but way to time consuming.
Just go with green chrt or fl yellow tails on any of em, maybe add a few strands of complimentary color to em from to match your candy, a chenille with both of those colors or a spin off of an old proven combo (like the old Xmas tree), and a holographic flash and your set.
Clean work.

Really neat looking, and the eyes just jump out at you but isn't that coloring take a lot of time. I would guess??? with a one color, those eyes, and the right tie(like one of your ties) that you would have a winner.. Up here many like either black with some orange, or dark brown, or tones of green or blue and black.
-
I really like the first head Skip. I would tie on some Aqua and chartreuse with a little flashabou then wrap it just a little with a silvery scale.
-
Thanks guys! Jack it does take more time, but I plan on having more time soon going forward. Going to fish a lot more and tie much less so a little extra time which is really just a double paint and double oven time so not terrible. Well actually the next added time is the eyes, but these don't really add much extra time over painted ones, maybe less since if you do 2 color eyes you have double drying times and really the reason I never put eyes on unless ask for. With these they stick good enough to stay while I add a coat of clear vinyl which should hold the, really good.

Those look great! What vein did you use on them? They turned out really great!
-
I used the Silver Vein on these. I have some Gold Vein, but really have not even tried it yet. Also have Copper Vein, but don't plan on using it like this. 2 of these are Transparent Gold over the Silver Vein, now that is a different take huh?
-
The transparent gold gives a good baitfish approach over it but than trans copper will give you a good orange tinted goldfish approach. I like when using oranges in black water.

We have similar taste in the colors. I like silver a lot, but also gold as there is a lot of gold of baitfish and just fish. I remember in 2010 I was resting out a new kip tail jig on mu bank and I had a cork over the jig. I put it in just a few feet from me and didnt wait long before pulling it out with the intent on placing it in another spot near, but as I pulled it out there was a flash from a fish just below where it came out. So I put it back in as fast as I could and bang, a big white crappie and in the next few minutes I pulled out 3 more. The smallest was 14" and I will never forget that flash of gold I saw in the water as I pulled it out before catching them.

So Skip, do you cure the jig completely after the vein application then re-heat and apply the trans or candy color and cure again? Outstanding FX!
-
Yes I cure the Silver Vein even longer than I do the top coat or any regular paint. I got that idea from a guy that has the Illusion paint. They had their web site mixed up so I talked to them a good bit months back and finally they figured out that they had their instructions wrong. The had the Silver Vein curing shorted time, but when I ask them about that they changed it and said I should get close to 400 degrees for 20 minutes. So I do probably close to 390 as I can in this old small toaster oven. I even bought a thermometer to test it and found it was off pretty good bit so now I have to set it at like 425 degrees to actually hit 390.

Skip the eyeballs are fantastic I think any combination of colors would look good with those jig heads it depends on what you like and looks good to you of course if I was going to pick one color I would pick chartreuse but even a combination of colors would look good on those heads.
-
Thanks Bob! I am not sure why I am doing this, but I guess it's just because I enjoy it. Dn't even know why I bought so many walleye heads either, LOL!
-
Are you getting those walleye heads from Labaits? I sure like them and as well as your jig heads!
-
-
No I don't even know who that is.
-
some pointed head and some round............................is that from paint drip during baking?
-
No paint dripping here. Hvae not had that happen in probably 8 or 9 years, LOL! As I type this and look I just figured that out. THe 1/16 have more of a rounded nose on them and I am not even sure where I got them. I have a lot more of the 1/8 and have painted all the 1/16 that I had. So it's a matter of who's mold made what head. You will never find me with paint dripping off the head, LOL!

Skip I have the same heads the same as yours I'm not sure where I got them either I thought of night prowler I could be wrong and I'm also thinking of Robert? but I do have quite a few of them in the 1/16.
-
I didn't get the 1/16 from Robert and you may be right with Nightprowler. I wouldn't mind picking up a few of them. I have more than enough 1/8. I am thinking about fishing these with a Slab Bandit. Saw a report on another board wher a guy went out and the bite was good so he decided to test his soft plastics out. He had several different kind that are hot on that board, but the Slab Bandits were the only one catching crappie. Another one was catching yellow bass and the other two he tried didnt get a bite at all.
