Does anyone out there have any recent positive reports on the crappie at Arkabutla? I have been going to Sardis for the past month due to the bite being nonexistent at Arkabutla. Sardis has been on, but I miss those Arkabutla slabs and of course the shorter drive. I am going to head to Arkabutla in the next week being that it's my home lake, and it's time to give her another gander but I was curious if anyone out there has some good news.....

Here is the question that I'm curious about. Where are all the under 12 inch fish that were in the lake last year? Why are none of them being caught.

Alot of them did go thru the spillway. A few of them have been caught. And the rest of them are scattered out over 20,000 acres of water right now. The problem is that you are fishing for ONE class of fish rather than 4 classes of legal fish at the other corp lakes.

I agree with there being so much water that the fish are scattered in places where they are hard to get to. The only time I fished butla last year my catch rate was about 2.5 throw backs to every keeper. In theory you should still be able to catch those smaller fish even of the keepers are not there. Just seems awful odd that those fish are not being caught either. It all has a way of working itself out though and there should of been a great spawn this year with good things to come in the near future.
The area we planted stakes last year had grass as tall as we are. From Dub Patten or the ramp with field glasses, nothing can be seen there. As the water gets hotter they may move out of cover into the main lake.
The guys didn't say anything about throw backs. What they may have ment was no keepers.
I've got some peoples fishing trotlines and jugs tonight, I'll check with them in the morning.
There is enough cover and food in deep enough water the don't need to get out in main body of water. Ole single poler I know is catching a few every time he goes. There is plenty of fish there but they are messed up with all that clear water, sun hurts their eyes. Going to be about 3 more months.
I appreciate it. I usually go to Butla once/week. Fished it pretty hard in may and halfway through June. For a week or so jigging structure was fairly productive then it shut off altogether .....,,,trolling, jigging, slip float etc. I was the only one on the lake most days in June untiI i threw in the towel and started heading to Sardis. I'm thinking when water hits 220 and under it will be on. I was hoping we would get a needle in haystack report of somebody hitting them but I guess not.
