Yep, been checked by him a few times at Sardis and Enid. Very friendly, does a good job.
He is a real nice guy. Checked my wife and I last year on Sardis while we were slow trolling. Came up to boat and said keep on fishing; held onto our boat, checked our fish and thanked us while we continued to fish.
Love it when they check. WISH they'd do it on barnett
Have no problem with a man doing his job.
GOOD JOB!!!!!!! I think we need more of that kind of Wardens. Real Pro at his job. It only takes a little of professionalism to make things go smoothly.
I've been fishing Sardis and Butla 4 years now and never been checked, seen em at the ramp a few times but they never gave me a second look. Had a few on the last trip that were just a shade over 11 when I put them in the cooler, I did a count when I thought I was getting close to my 15 and noticed a couple of them had started to curl up a little from being on ice, thats the only time I've ever even worried about getting checked. I took one of em back out and layed it on my board and tried to flatten him back out but he was so slick with slime I couldnt really tell if he was still over 11 or not. I think from now on Im throwing anything back that aint over 11 and a half since I dont use a livewell and put my fish directly on ice.
Good ideal!!!! Your luck is going to run out one of these days. I don't keep anything under 12" even though I can. Just not worth the fine to me.
Chucker, good idea....and it keeps ya fishin a little longer too, which ain't all bad.
I only keep fish that are 1/2 over the limit just in case. Heck over on the Ten Tom the length limit is 9" we rarely keep anything less than 11".
GLAD THE STATE GAVE THEM ENOUGH MONEY TO GET THERE . LOL . :biggrin
Not recommending anything just saying. Every time I have been asked by the wardens if I caught anything and I responded NO, they never checked my Livewell. Now I did not have fish each of those times, but I still thought it was strange. It has happened 4 or 5 times. over the past two years.
Some friends of mine got burned by the old style Frabill crappie checkers where the fatter fish cant slide all the way down to the end so they measure bigger than they actually are. They said not only did they get assessed fines but the wardens took ALL their fish, illegal and legal. Is that true? I think that would hurt just as bad or worse than the fine.
Had a 16" slab shrink to 15" on the ice a couple weeks ago, not that it matters legally. That game warden is a pretty good guy, he was one of the two that gave me a ride to the ramp a month ago when ducker's motor died.
I always carry a "Golden Rule" for that very reason and because the wardens use them to check people's fish. This is especially a problem at butla with the thick fish that come from there (or use to come from there before Handi caught all of them).
Why do the wardens take all of the fish?
fish fry
Different warden but I had 2 roll up on me at Sardis while fishing. They asked several questions for their "survey" such as how much money I spent to get there and my total cost of fishing, what county I was from, then he weighed my fish and checked my license. That was the first time I had ever been checked on the water. Pic is yesterday at Sardis. Bottom left was hair under 16"
