Sammy,Chris or Donnie can help u with this........Good choice for your Son...
Comfort inn and suites is right across the street from the frat row entrance. Try the quad on campus so he knows what he'll be eating. Not sure if the main dining hall is open during the break. Make sure and visit the cheese and ice cream shop if you like home made if either. If he wants a shirt or hat, go to the lodge off campus. "Way cheaper" the book store is kind of pricey for logo apparel. Park near the old post office and that will put in the middle of everything. Harvey's for dinner but take out a loan before you go. Good luck to your family! I know you're proud no matter where he decides go
My son finishes a summer class Wednesday or I would have him show you around. If a friend of his that's a senior is still there, maybe we can have him meet y'all and get you started looking around. Just a view from someone who has been there and answer any questions you have without a "recruiter" speech.
Eat at Harvey's or the Veranda in starkvegas, it is worth the drive to West Point to try Anthony's and The Ritz. Two people can have a fine dinner at any of these places for $55.00-$110.00 depending on if you order drinks and/or wine. I have no idea as to where to stay cause we live too close and always drive back home.
Petty's BBQ is a great little lunch place on hwy 12. Best ribs in town for sure, also their hamburgers are fine!
Umi's steak house, Mugshots for burgers, sandwiches, and a cold drink, and there's a really good pizza joint downtown. Can't think of the name rite now.
Old Venice pizza company. You should really try this. Pizzas, Cal zones, pasta.
Thnx for the info, keep it coming with all those eaten joints we may spend the week....LOL
best place to eat is Harveys and the Veranda has the best soul food there is IMO as far as were to stay there are a lot of motels on 12 atleast 6 or 7 ...oh and if you want a really good cheeseburger try Christy's on 12
+2 mugshots. Little Dooey's has pretty good bar-b-que too and they serve quail
The Veranda has soul food? I've been there a bunch and I wouldn't classify it that way. They do make a super fine crispy fried duck dish, my favorite.
Wow, now you really teaching me something Donnie. I never knew they did that.
the owner who is the chef was just on the morning news during the college world series talking about his soul food they may have it all the time now not sure Feesh
If you go to starkville there are 3 must do's as far as eating. Just trust me and you will thank me later. First, start the morning off at the Starkville Cafe for a BIG breakfast. It is located on the square just a block or two down from Mugshots. Then for lunch go to Obey's and get the Roast Beef Po Boy(with gravy)....best sandwich I ever had and it is huge! Then my ladt suggestion is Little Dewey's to get some BBQ. It's one of those places that is unique to Starkville.
If you want a great steak for dinner go to Harvey's or Cappie's. at Cappie's you bring your own wine/liquer if that is your thing. Harvey's has the best steak though.
I miss Starkville so bad. We always started gameday off with a breakfast from Starkville Cafe. Just made the whole day go better.
I had forgotten about Oby's. they have all kinds of fine sammiches, I've never tried the roast beef and gravy but I will now! Another cudos on Harvey's, you must eat there at least once.
I love the Mardi Gras Pasta at the Veranda, try it next time your there Donnie, pasta with andoulie sausage and huge shrimp and crawfish on it, some gooooooood stuff man. And yes I prolly misspelled the sausage.:biggrin
There's also a fairly new place by the name of Restaurant Tyler, just a couple doors down from Old Venice. They use a lot of locally sourced ingredients and have a great gourmet menu if you're in to that kind of thing. We were there for Sunday brunch a week or 2 back and it was incredible.
I always hit Oby's when in Starkville. I know it is strange but my favorite poboy there is the Barbecue (ask for the old style one). The restaurants already mentioned are the better ones there. One not mentioned is The Grill which is a block south of main street on Montgomery.
here is the tripadvisor list for starkville restaurants
You can also use that site for a ranking of hotels there.
