i got a little planter box i put two mater plants in every year. generally they don't do well. the little yellow buds come in but will wilt and fall off. i got three maters so far this year, bout the size of a tennis ball but bunches of the buds that have fallen off. is there something missin in the soil or just the fact they are in poor soil in a planter box???
Don't have room to grow more than likely. Maters normally won't do well in a "confined" growing area
Lack of calcium,go to the coop they will fix you up.
you can take a qtip and run it through all the blooms about every other day and it'll help alot. pain in the butt to do with a bunch of plants

Maters don't like pots to begin with. Half of a 55 gallon barrel is more like it per plant. Leave one of the bongs in the top half, drill holes in the bottom of the other half. Stand aluminum cans up covering the bottom of each half then fill, heap it up with some good soil before planting. Collect rain water to water them with, "not city water". When watering some soil finds it way into the cans, water does too. The roots find their way to the cans. Add miracle grow and 10 calcium capcules to a bucket of water and water 2 plants with it once a week. Potted plants need to be watered daily, with the cans they don't need as much water.

How is the field corn coming? I need 2 bushels when it's ready for ears.
I want to can some Hominy later in the year too.
