The model I bought has the gas ignition system so I won't have to use any lighting fluid.
natural lump charcoal you pipsqueak lol :Rofl
That was for KDavid lol
Well, he is a sissy PUnk from way back and everyone knows it!
+10000 on the lump. Burns cleaner and hotter. In my egg, I can put about 8 pounds and it'll slow cook for a good 14 hours
Is there a specific brand? Like I said, I haven't used anything other than a gas grill for the last 20 years
It needs to be some that aren't that expensive because I am on a very tight budget...
get you one of those charcoal staters at wally's for ten bucks that you put newspaper in the bottom of to start your charcoal and bout any brand will do, just add some hickory chips or chunks along the way.....it works great...
I get whatever Kroger or Sams has.
What Windstone said....I made one like that only bigger....it holds 10 lbs. of charcoal.....three sheets of newspaper is all it takes.
I don't need a starter. It is gas ignition so I can crank it up

Natural lump, I haven't found any difference between name brands and cheaper store brands. It doesn't take as much as the briquets to generate a lot of heat and it has no chemicals. Ive often wondered what all kind of chemicals may be in the briquets. Just make sure it is hardwood and not anything else. One trick since you are wanting to be frugal. GDG taught me this.. When you are through cooking pour a gallon or so of water on the coals and put them out. They will quickly dry and you can use what is left next time, this makes a bag go a lot further.
Thanks Feesh for the most intelligent and helpful comment this evening. Fixing to go out and pick up cans and dumpster dive for a while.....:Rofl
rducks you really need to wait on Big H to chime in on this as fat as he is i am sure he got the answer your looking for. Boy sure does like to eat

I just load the grill up with some hickory, oak, cherry and apple wood. Burn it down to coals and cook on it.
man I don't want to get cross with feesh , but that sure sounds like a real good way to rust one out every year !! I have a good one that will shut off..... you close the damper and its out. I put a disc coulter blade in the bottom and pour my coals on it to keep it off the bottom, when im ready to go again, ive got a piece of small expanded metal and a bucket that I recycle into,, cuts down on the dollars and the ash/un-burnt coals in the corners of the yard !!

For a Weber witch I have the gold model , your basic grilling you cannot beat it... For slow cooking I have a brinkman smoker I use lump charcoal...
I use Nothing but charcoal....Gas sucks!!!!
yes that will work great, at the fireplace stores they also have a tube of sealant that you put on the cracks or pipes/ducts.... cant remember but its red and goes by a number not a name.... that would be good to lay a small bead down to stick the felt. now you might want to burn it off one good time before you cook on it, might even want to test a small piece before you go the full monte ...... it doesn't smell or smoke on a fireplace but I aint cookin $9 dolla a lb beef steaks on it either !!
" "I aint cookin $9 dolla a lb beef steaks on it either !! " "
Where do you find them that cheap?
Hahaha...I will prolly have to grill King Cotton dogs
For a great steak.......marinate in Coke in the fridge for 24 hrs. Then grill it....dont put anything else on it.
The sugars and the caramel flavoring in the coke will sweeten the meat some and the coke will also make the meat tender.
If you watch closely, this time of year, Wally world and Lowes will have the two big bags of Kingsford shrinkwrapped together on sale, it is basically two for the price of one. Also Lowes has a good deal on the Cowboy brand lump charcoal
If you want a great steak. Hot tub it. Season your steak, then put in a vacuum seal bag (or 2 ziplock bags) , then into a crockpot on low, don't put the lid on it. Let it sit for 30 minutes or so before you grill it. It brings the internal temp up to about 100 degrees so all you gotta do it sear it as hot as you can get it for a couple minutes per side
Thanks for the responses.
I only cook my steaks a couple minutes per side anyway, I let them get to room temp before I put them on the grill.
Usin coke to soak it in will also take off any rust that might be there cause you waited to dang long to burn it!!
