Wow!!!!! Unbelievable!!!!! They did the same thing to my wife in 2010. Basically gave everyone in her position a 30 day notice that their jobs were being eliminated. She had 30 years in at the time.
man that sux, no way I could have laid someone off after that many years service. I had 4 long timers and I would and did find other ways to cut expenses to keep them on.
WOWWWWWWW, That sucks. We have one guy that's 72 and another that's 69. Neither can see worth a crap and they can't get around to well but I'd NEVER fire them. They've been with the company for 50 years
Phooey. I'd lay em off, deny their unemployment claims and repo their houses. :)
Ken, you just stay on your reservation and don't get any ideas about trying to pilfer mah lake and no one will get hurt.
Sorry for your troubles, and hope you can work it out to go full geezer on em
Wannabe...
Sorry to hear that Ken, if you don't mind tell us who this company is.
sorry to hear that now go get thumped:biggrin
Bitter sweet. Hope you have saved some money to live on after unemployment is exhausted. Nobody is interested in a person over 55 for employment! Speaking from experience here.
That sucks Ken. Hope the best for you.
I feel your pain, went thru the same thing about a year and a half ago and I was just layed off again a couple of months ago !!
Slabo.....as good as you can cook....you need to open up a resturant
Hate it for yall Ken, good luck, hope everything works out.
That stinks hope things work out for ya.
That's the Pitts. Happened to me too. Fortunately I was approaching geezerdom, so I went ahead and started my retirement. No regrets.
Now, come on and lay ur thumper pole aside an let's have some fun pullin... Here, there, or anywhere.. Today, tomorrow, anytime..
ALL I NEED IS SOME INSURANCE . i CAN'T REALLY GET INTO MY 401K WITHOUT GETTING SLAM DUNKED . i JUST TURNED 55 ONLY JOB I HAVE EVER HAD . IN THE GOOD OLD DAYS WE WERE GEORGIA PACIFIC AND THEY SOLD US , SOUND FAMILIAR FEESH , THEY NEAR ABOUT SHUT YA'LL WHOLE TOWN DOWN UP THERE . I WAS NOT THE ONLY ONE LET GO TODAY . SOONER OR LATER THEY GONNA DO THIS ONE TO MANY TIMES . MAYBE IT IS THIS TIME . I GOT SEVERANCE FOR AWHILE AND INSURANCE FOR 6 MONTHS . BY THE I SHOULD HAVE THINGS FIGURED OUT SOMEWHAT . THE GOOD LORD HAS BEEN TAKING CARE OF ME A LONG TIME AND HE WILL CONTINUE . THEY WERE KILLING ME ANYWAY AND I WAS TOO STUBBORN TO QUIT . MAYBE I CAN GET SOME REST . AND WANNABE BETTER WATCH OUT SINCE I AM TEMPORARY GEEZERISM YOU JUST MIGHT SEE ME ON A LAKE NEAR YOU . WE GOT NO NOTICE AT ALL JUST A FEELING I HAVE HAD FOR AWHILE . NO MORE TEN OR TWELVE HOUR DAYS . THANKS FOR THE ENCOURAGEMENT .
if you gave me three guesses who you worked for gp would have been one of them... had a plant in oxford i called on for years and the same thing happened down there. when the ax fell it fell hard on a lot of good folks...there is still have a small mellomene plant there but not sure if they still own it or not. good luck bud....
They sold our division off before koch bought them . I worked for the distribution division .
We got a new plant coming into L'ville now. They are moving into the old GP facility. I hear they into backer boarding for concrete and such. You right about GP putting the crunch on L'ville. Lost a plywood, particle board, and a chemical plant. Hundreds of jobs
I think all they got left is the paper .think they closed or sold everything else .
Sorry to hear of your getting caught up in the corporate monopoly game. Things will work out.
Sorry to hear that Thump. There is no loyalty anymore in the corporate world. I have worked at the same place for 20 yrs and I see people coming and going and job-hopping like there's no tomorrow. I am sure you will figure things out but it sux for sure.
If you are into relocating you should consider the golden triangle area. Lots of stuff going on there. I think I remember you saying your wife is from the Starkvegas area.
I am sure money bags "G" can hook you Thump...He's so famous he's got money hanging out his a.us
My wife's son is living up there right now . That is all two grandchildren . right now i am just going to recover from shock . I am going fishing .
Good luck to ya Thump.......hope good things come your way
I'm not suppose to talk bad about them .
Hey thump,
You might want to check with some tax folks. We went through a similar thing with our company in 2002 and they have changed the laws on 401K in certain circumstances. I was 57 and I was able to draw from mine without a penalty. Still have to pay income tax just like on other income but if you are 55 or older there is not a penalty. Like I said, I was 57, but one of my buds was 55 and he did the same thing I did.
I was fortunate that I was able to keep my insurance at a very reasonable rate.
Good luck and go fishing.
SeaRay
It would be hard not to talk about them. I can't imagine looking for another job at this point in my life. I've been at the same place for 31 years & will turn 51 in August. I was told the same thing about the 401K. after 55 I could draw without penalty. Hope you find something if that's what you want... Good Luck
good info guys . I will check on that but I sure don't want it to run out either . I plan on living to be a hundred or so .lol thanks
