2014 FJ discussion

We, the Directors, will be meeting soon to discuss rules and changes to the series as a whole. We are hoping to grow and expand this Tournament series, but we need the participants input.. We need your input to help guide us as to what will help boost participation and enjoyment at these events.. We are looking into a points based system to reward those who show up at every event.. We are also looking at a big fish tourney(prob Washington or Grenada) at a $75 entry fee with. $25 instead of $10 goin to Big Fish.. The extra money will go towards championship pay outs.. If you plan on, have or do fish these tourneys please give us some ideas to look at that will help raise attendance and make this a fun time for all who fish..

Feb last yr had a good turn out at Washington

set the record in a tourney at Washington in February. Some huge fish was caught wouldn't mind going back to Washington in February myself

Me either, had 22 fesh that slam filled up a 48 quart ice chest, them dudes is THICK!!!!!!!

1) Fish six tournaments on the Big Four from January to June.
2) Change the name. Big Four Tournaments Series?
3) Award points according to finish, inverse to the number of teams entered.
4) 100% payout each tournament
5) Trophies to the points champions.
6) No championship tournament.
7) Change the officers to President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer, Tournament Director, Weigh Master. I've been fishing them for three years and didn't know Director General pulled rank on the Tournament Director.
8) Weight protests must happen before a team leaves the scales. Waiting until someone whips you is not the time to protest your weight.

No prepaying for upcoming turnys.....

I'm not a big tournament fisherman but I believe in another year or two this series is gonna be a little bigger than just a fruit jar. This should be a state wide series instead of just the big 4. Some folks ain't gonna like it but everything can't be in your backyard.

No smooching in the parking lot before launch. Very unbecoming for tournament staff.

I agree with Feesh that a couple should be held on the East side. I would hope some of the folks over there that never fish the tourneys would come out and participate. If they don't come out and support it it's going to be a bust because some folks over this way and down south aren't going to be able to go or want to go. Not everyone can afford to go stay in motel or cabins a couple of nights plus gas and food. Is the championship going to be based on points instead of a fish off at end of year?

I think we gonna meet and figure out what were gonna try and do "it is gonna be a great season" I would like to set a date were we can all get together and eat and discuss the next year of fruit jars everybody is welcome to come and voice there opinion just waiting on a date

I'm open to listen to discussion on anything that may need to be changed but facts are facts and our Southern tourneys (other than Washington) have been bust.. I've been fishing these tourneys since '09 and most people who fished them were
1) North of Grenada
2) not interested in traveling with the primarily southern MCC
3) not interested in membership fees or $100 entry fees
We averaged 16 boats per tourney this year, had 12 fish the Championship.. Only one boater showed up from south of Grenada to fish the Championship... It's hard to continue to go south when our average is less than 10 boats pr tourney..

Like I said I'm open for a public discussion, that's the main reason for starting this thread(saves a ton of gas to make your point)... Y'all want to have an open discussion in person that's fine... July 13th in Grenada, dead in the middle between TN stateline and Jackson.. Name a time and I as well as other Directors will be there.. Or you can voice matters on this thread..

Points that need addressing
1) no re-weighs, argue your fish at time of weighing.. Once you leave scale argument is over
2) pay-outs.. Maybe paying for every 4 entries
3) points system
4) child exemptions
5) DQ or weight reduction on boat that is late
6) Fall tourneys vs January & July
7) Southern tourneys

Yeh but it gives those of us that do live SOUTH of grenada a chance to not have to spend $300 like we do every tourney to get a tourney in. I woulda been at the championship had it not been for us selling our house. Look at Washington and Chotard. You had 5 or 6 from South of grenada in each of those

Why don't you 5 or 6 teams down south fish 5 or 6 tournaments on Barnett, Okatibbee, Wolf, and Chotard. Then we'll combine the championship.

I really like ATMs idea. The north fish the big 4 and the south fish their 4 lakes and for the championship put all the lakes in a hat and draw or you could even pick a neutral site that neither has fished all year

You don't want to fish up here. You don't want to fish down there. Where do you want to fish?

I understand completly. I just believe that we could get more participation by doing it like that. I know of a couple ppl in TN and AR that would like to fish but cant make all the southern tournaments and im sure there is ppl farther south that cant make the trip up north.

what the heck are you talking about? I drive up to all the tourneys up there cept this year. We've been working on the house so much and spent all my fishing money on it. The bold sentence truly makes no sense at all. Anyway, ya'll have fun, I ain't the only one contemplating not fishing them this coming year due to all this.

THIS(bickering and arguing) is the reason the Series struggles now.. Sacrifices have to be made on both ends.. I drive 100 miles to fish Butla, Grenada is 2 1/2hrs from my house.. Everyone has to accept the fact that this is MISSISSIPPI Crappie.Com FJ Series.. Be civil and courteous to the fact that people from all over want to fish and not every tourney is gonna be right around the corner..

I want to fish a few tournaments next year. An ultimate challenge tournament would be pretty cool. Not sure you would get much participation though.

I just want to say that you all are so blessed to have so many great fishing lakes within a two hour drive!!!! The closest lake to me is Wappapello and I have to drive an hour and 15 minutes to get there. It is a pond compared to the big four. Reelfoot is about 2 hours from me. Great fishing, but it tears up a boat worse than anywhere I've ever fished.
I'll keep making the drive to MS. If I feel like fishing a tournament, I will. If I don't feel like fishing one, I won't!!!

Ya'll want to know what a women thinks......I think men argue more than women. This whole series was designed for fun. All the bickering takes the fun out of it. The board of directors is decided upon for a reason. They are chosen by the majority of the fishermen/women that fish these tourneys with the intention of the board serving to suit the best needs for the whole group. That is what we are trying to do/and will do to the best of our abilities. Not everyone will be pleased.....this goes for the board and the people who fish the tourneys. Just everyone please be patient. Let the board meet and see what we come up with before all the bickering starts!!!

Anytime you name a winner or have a payout you got competition. With competition comes the arguments. Just have your fish camp. Go fish and eat and drink.

A great big AMEM!!!!!!

Like Speck we drive 2 1/2 hr one way to Sardis or longer to fish other lakes ....with farming its last min if i can fish or not.... maybe yall could spread money out alil more like one spot for ever 3 or 4 boats.... with tha 5 bucks you keep from each tournament... did just 1st and 2nd place get all that at championship? or is that used for other things? maybe try to find a sponsorship or 2 to help out down with few places out tha money like 4th or 5th place if its just handful of Crankbaits, Jigs,Cooler or Pole.... its gona be hard to grow unless you find some kinda sponsorship.... sometimes you get to point you gota grow or stay tha same size....
