Nice set of collar jigs. Always need some of those in the tackle bag :)
Those are very nice looking jigs, crappie catchers for sure.............
Thanks guys! Bob that hackle comes off of coq de Leon chickens. I have a good many of these in a few colors, but most in Chart and FL Yellow. I may add some colors. They have the laced feathers like this. I will see where I have a pic of one some place.
found a picture of some. You can also see the chickabou which is like mini marabou.

skip you sent me quite a few of them a while back we will definitely have to work with them because I definitely liked the looks did you strip one side off before you tied I do love the marabou in kind of an olive color their but we do have I think five different colors that you sent me I would have to go down and check I just got through waxing the floors there I have to wait until it dries honey dues the top that off I had to do the upstairs and wax that also can't get away from that beautiful wife of mine she keeps me busy.
Bob I didn't take one side off, just cut the stem where the more fuzzy stuff starts and then pull a little off of the stem, maybe 1/8" to expose the stem and tied it in.
how do u make it do that around the collar
If you mean the hackle collar, you tie in the stem, grab the end of the feather with good hackle pliers and wrap it from one to a few tImes and trap it, cut the end off and whip finish.
very nice ties Skip
ok thanks
Oh and you do pull just enough barbules off to expose the stem so when you tie it in that there are no barbules in the way of that fist tie in point. The tip will take care of it self if you keep hold of it so it can be trapped at the end of the wrapping. Some time if you want less or a thinner collar you would tear off the side of the feather that will wrap aginst the hook leaving the full side to stick out.
Skip I was messing around today and made up for Hackel jigs these are very small 1/64 I believe that we use powder paint cocoa color and we use squirrel tail for the tail we use some of crazy anglers Chanel.

Nice ties. Mine were 1/32 and 1/64 jigs as well.
can u cut the collar around to make it the size u want or will it mess it up
You don't want to cut the barbules and instead get a feather that fits what you want. However the smaller hackles thin wide get more costly with the more narrow because then your mmostly dealing with hackle on capes closer to dry fly hackle. Not that this is a bad thing because you get a lot of feathers off of a cape like that. This not the cape, but instead is the soft hackle of this bird. The cape has longer and thinner feathers which will make the collar shorter, but it wouldn't have the chart base with black tips either. You can pick smaller thinner soft hackle to tie on a jig, but there are not near as many thin ones as there are wider ones. It all comes down to what look you want.
also forgot to mention that the more narrow the hackle the stiffer it is too. This is why the very thing dry fly hackle is for dry flies and will not soake up a lot of water making it sink. These are not for that kind of tie.
oh and this is why they make hackle gauges, so you can make the hackle fit the hook size which is important in fly tying. Using soft hackle is not as critical on size like I am using it. It's not going to stand out like this after it's wet either.
ok thanks
Very Nice!!! let s see the results............
What results? If you mean catching fish then I guess you will have to ask my customer I am sending these to, LOL! However it really will not matter much as I am not taking on new customers and about to just tie for friends and a few customers that I have tied for over time. I am changing what I do and tying for others all the time is over.
