I bought 2 new Maxx 29's for my trolling motor. I have a promite 5/5/3 on board charger. I installed yesterday afternoon. I was surprised/worried this morning when both green and red lights (indicating still charging). My old batteries would recover overnight after total depletion.
I did somehow make a "spark" while finishing up the connections. Could I have damaged the battery/batteries?
SHould new batteries take longer on initial charge?
Should not have taken long to charge New batteries. If you made a spark, check each of the inline fuses on the charging wire to each battery. Also recheck all your connections. Make sure the 3 is hooked to cranking battery

He is referring to the 3 amp lead. Also check your motor's charging circuit. Creating a spark somewhere is the easiest way to blow a diode in the rectifier. If it's OK you should see 13-15 volts at the starting battery with the motor running 1500-2000 RPMs.Quote:

This sparking is what happened to me and I found this in the manual. So I hope the diode in the rectifier is fine, because i have NO IDEA what you are talking about:biggrin........Just remember bill, we all don't have ur knowledge.....Heck, I make gasoline for a living :biggrin

Thanks...still loven the boat. The guy at promariner is saying when you unplug and plug it back up, its a minimum of 18 hours before the red light goes out (maint mode). I;m just calling BS because it didn't do that before.Quote:

Everything is good now...guess it just took those new batterises a while to charge. I ended up checking everything the manufac said to check with multimeter and i couldn't find nothing wrong. So I just gave it a few days and it cycles into maint mode now.
just proves that batteries go down sitting on the store shelf and should be brought up to full charge before first use. JMO
