Closest place is Mc'kees quick stop at Pheba. Go down 389 turn left on 50 and its on the left. They got small and big minner's, they even have bass minner's. They give a good count too. Other than them you will have to drive to the other side of Columbus good luck sir
What area do you live? Their may be something closer
I live right in the middle of starkville
Pheba is it, you had Grenada listed as your home lake so I wasn't sure which direction you would be headed to the river.
I'm from Grenada but I go to msstate. Just to be sure can you troll bluff lake? I know they have some different rules being a refuge and all.
As far as I know you can. Crappie bite there is tough, especially this time of year. It does hold some monsters though.
I gotcha. Only fished it in spring time. Might head toward the tenn Tom then
You can catch some on the river rite now fishing 10-12' deep on old blow downs next to deeper ledges. Be prepared to catch lots of little ones
Thanks for info. I'm kind of a newbie as far as fishing rivers. About the only places I've fished are the corps lakes
There are some places where you can catch them shallow during hot weather but you gonna have to put some time in to find them. They are usually pretty good quality for the river. If you've been fishing the corp lakes the river fish are gonna be a lot smaller than what you are used to catching. Check out the last few tourney results and you will understand. When I fish Nader for a couple months and then go back to the Ten-Tom, I have to change my attitude about what a good fish looks like. If you can catch a limit of 3/4-1 1/2 lb fish you have had an excellent day.
Just my 2 cents, but i's opt for the Tenn Tom over Bluff. Feeshrman was right about Bluff being tough. I've still been catching them on the river 3-6 feet deep near deeper water. Fish early and find shady spots when the sun comes up.
There's actually a little bait shop about halfway to Brooksville from the Refuge if you do decide to fish there. The bait shop is just across the road from Land o Lakes, if you have any idea where that is. The phone number for the guy who runs it is 6625746927, I'd call and make sure that they were open before heading that way. I'd guess it's about 7 or 8 miles from the Refuge.
