I was going to head out in the morning. Now they are calling for winds 10-20 with gusts over 30. How long you reckon a guy would have in the morning before the wind starts howling? Haven't had the boat out in awhile, and finally had a babysitter till noon and mother nature has to throw a monkey wrench into it. I know you can't catch em if you ain't out there, but I don't want to have any incidents either.
Don't know if you don't try. They were calling for 5-10 out of the south here on Sunday and we ended up fishing til about noon when the wind decided to blow 30 out of the north. Give it the ol college try until the wind won't let you anymore.
In a situation like that I always try to go real early put in at a boat ramp that will be out of the wind (if possible) and not venture to far from it. Can't catch them from the couch but always better to be safe then sorry. If you really get into them all a guy really needs is a couple hours to have a good catch.
Coffey County is my lake of choice, but the only boat ramp makes it tough to trailer with a strong south wind. Thought about Melvern, and although its the same distance as CC I don't know alot about fishing it. They won't let boats on CC until 1/2 after sunrise, may try to be there by 7 and hopefully the wind hasn't come up.
Fished Melvern for eyes today, little windy early just about right for eyes, calmed down as the morning got old. Did not catch a eye nor did I see anyone catch one, lot of pre-fishing going on, talked to one guy who said he had caught two keepers just at daylight but nothing else.

Well woke up with the wind at 10. Got to the lake and the wind was gusting to 17. I was literally the only boat at the lake for the first 90 minutes. I boated at least 30 walleyes, and likely around 40. If I would have had a second person in the boat we could have put over 100 in the boat. Also a dozen channel cat and 3 drum. The last drum was a big one, and it was bronze colored like a smallmouth. In fact the first time I saw it I thought it was a smallmouth due to the color. Lake was a little rough, but I love the way the G3 cuts the water, and it was a nice dry ride. Most of the fish were in 6.5-10 fow but I did catch 2 in 11.5 fow. Color of the day was hot pink with silver flake 3" grub with the second best good ole chartreuse 3" grub. None of the walleye were large enough to keep, but most were between 15"-18"
Did you fish Coffey County? I was there last Sunday and caught similar numbers trolling cranks.Quote:

I didn't have one come close to the 21" minimum, but with the numbers I caught they should start showing up in the next year or two.
My mom caught a 23" when we were there on Sunday. We fished it a couple of days over Memorial weekend and I got that was 22 or 23. We have caught many that around 18". It's one of my favorite lakes with all the different types of fish.

sah what kind of crank baits do you troll? Always looking to add another trick to the bag.
Also the more I use the G3 boat the more I like it. Nice dry ride in the chop today. Only downside to it is my truck does not like towing it.
I like to use wally divers. I understand about the towing, I went from a Stratos bass boat to a fiberglass Lund with walk thru windshield. I love my Lund but my truck hates it if there's a headwind.Quote:
