Green Sunfish?
No a Green Sunfish which are also calle Ricefield Slicks have a large mouth.

I would call it a Shell Cracker, and a nice one.
First time I caught a Green sunfish (way before the internet) I thought it was a hybrid cross between a largemouth bass and a sunny :)

thats a shellcracker and they don't always have red on the ear flap, matter of fact where I fish I hardly ever see a red earflap.
