Anyone have any reports on butla?
nope. Go to Sardis
Was catching them pretty good this time a couple years ago. May give it a try Thursday or Friday.
GL-let us know how you do. It's a way different ball game this year. Only thing helpful is that they are pulling some water--should pull em out of the grass some.
Are they going to try and suck it dry like last year?
2 to 5 years ago it was one of the top lakes to be on. But being sucked dry as it was last year, Good Luck.
Don't think that will be a problem this year until they get to winter pool and we don't get any rain.
As much water as it has/down stream has--it should be a good long while before it gets LOW like last year I would think--knock on wood:biggrin
After may 1 summer pool is 220 until sept.1. If they can get it down it will stay there till sept. 1
Fella I know went there yesterday evening. Caught two 13" fish and a couple of catfish.
From May 1st 2012 to July 1st 2012 the lake went from 211 to 208. At the same time the down stream river gauges remained several feet above the depth they are when the gates are relatively closed. Common sense tells me the gates were open during this time when the lake was 9 to 12 ft below summer pool. The lack of rain had a lot to do with the low lake level but it was not the only factor. I have heard people say a log was jammed in the gate and they had to pull the lake down to fix the problem. I have also heard they were working on the dam and needed the water level low. I am not sure that either one of these stories is true but they make a lot more sense than it didn't rain because the lake continued to drop while the river continued to flow without any rain.
Oh yea, there is no way I'm right so just forget everything I just said. ATM is right. It was his year at the lake...day after day...
It must have evaporated over the levee into the cold water river huh? I figured all the peeps from Ar had heard of a flood control lake. When the water is flowing beneath the dam its because someone controlled it to do that or it rained. And, I think someone said earlier it never rained.
Let youall know in about 2 weeks going in for a nerve block next week on lower back, knees are doing better. Was gonna try midway last week but the river shot back up.
You're such a smart hydrologist; how come none of the Big Four reached summer pool last year? Quadruple log jams? Gewber.
It was definitely lack of rain, but also a problem with the gates. After they filled it with saw dust the lake started rising. It still would have never made it to summer pool.I go to church with the gate keeper and that's the truth.
And Bird down it's not worth it trust me.
The little that ran through the stuck gate would not have stopped a rise with decent rains last year.
Gates being open at all at Butla is not good when you havent and dont get any rain. Last year was a drout situation for sure, Nader lacked 7 feet reaching summer pool. One good thing is that the fesh have plenty of weeds for the hatchlings to hide in.
Thanks big c. I knew something was going on. This site has gotten to where its not worth a grain of salt to me. I thought maybe I could help people and learn at the same time but it seems everybody knows everything on here. I may get upset about the shape butla is in but I have been open minded.
As for the original post u can hang it up, the most fish I have heard of that have been caught all YEAR has been 7. Good luck. Ask Bigblue his tactic and u may be able to get u 1 or 2.
How did this post go from a "has anyone fished butla thread" to an arguement about water being let out and the lake dropping from 211 to 208 thread????? Last year on May 1 Butla was above curve at 210.6. We got no rain that month and the lake dropped to 208.5 by May 31. No rain in June to speak of and dropped to 207.7 by June 30. A very small amount of rain in July and up to 210.9 by July 31. That is a drop of 2.9 ft in 61 days which is an average of .05 a day. I to also have common sense and it is really hard for me to believe the gates were open at more than a trickle over these 2 months with this little loss of water. However you want to slice it though mother nature put Butla in bad shape last summer but she is returning the favor and helping Butla out this year.
Just for comparison Grenada dropped .5 from May 1 to June 30 which is a rate of .01 a day. With Butla being the smallest of the lakes and being the one most effectived by small amounts of gain or loss of water maybe these numbers will make a little sense.
Handi I think your figures are off May 1 the lake was 210 that's 10ft under normal not over.
Lets not take this thread into the wrong direction. Please play nice.
The month of June makes sense but the month of May does not. A 2.1 foot drop in 30 days does not happen without water running through the spillway. It doesn't really matter anymore though. I just hope they got all the sawdust or whatever it was cleaned out of the gates.
Don't y'all know, Elvis is really still alive, we never landed on the moon, Bigfoot is real and there are no crappie left in Arkabutla. Y'all are so hard headed:eek:
Its all Specks fault anyway
And the cookie monster is really BigH
I replied " NO". Go to Sardis!Maybe that did it!:dono
Wannabe is ugly!!!!
