I knew we had trouble with the new #4 Sickle hook, new meaning all of them that came into the country in the last couple months. Now it seems that the #4 are not the only size that has a problem breaking as I just heard the #6 and the #2's also are breaking very easy. Thankfully I have enough older ones to lat a little while, but soon if they don't make them good replacing what is out there now, it's now good!
Take if for what it's worth and if you don't believe it, then buy what you want.

I haven't had any break on me but fished with a buddy of mine couple of weeks ago. He was using some pony heads I had poured and given him a few months ago. He had 2 1/0 red break within a few minutes. One had never been used.
So far the 2's and 6's I have are fine - the 4's are not. I've been incontact with Matzuo and I know they're running a new batch of the #4 Black Chrome, I sent an email last night asking the status of them and they said they would be replaced. I have posted that information to the board previously.
Talk to Paul, he just got in some other sizes including the ones your talking about and there is a problem with these as well! Personally I have a lot on hold waiting for new ones to come in and the only ones I am getting made right now are from older orders that don't have this issue.
I have 3000 #2's,3000#4's and 2000 #6's...all black chrome..that are not worth hitting a dog in the butt with..they all break in the same place at the 90 bend...i waited a month and got another 1000 6's to see if they had fixed the problem...ah no, they break just like the others did...why sell hooks when you know they are bad,been told they are bad by countless people, and have known about it for months??????

Thanks for the heads up Skip. I need to order some but I will hold up on the sickles. I have enough to last until the fall of good hooks, was just going to get stocked up. I hope they get the problem worked out, I would hate to stop using them but I don't want any jigs out there that isn't worth a dine,,,,....
I might just spread out the 2's and 6's and take a sample from throughout the box and test them again!!! The 2's and 6's I've poured so far have been fine. I had emailed the guy at Matzuo again checking on the status of the new 4's but he hasn't answered me back yet. I know some of you guys are on other boards if you could post links to the threads I'll attach them to the Matzuo guy, so he'll know it's not just me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Skiptomylu, I buy the hundred packs and last year was short 10 to 25 hooks per pack. The bad part is I love that 1/0 hook and still buy them knowing that the pack may be short.
If I was that short in a 100 pack..someone would be sending me some hooks..
I sure would ask who ever your buying them from what the heck is wrong with their counting. That is totally not cool that they would short you like that! You need to find a different supplier if they don't fix that problem. I can't believe that they do this. I mean if it happened one time, okay, but e ven 2 time, I am calling someone!Quote:

we have over 6000 of the old-style sickles well boys and maybe back to good old Eagle claw have you guys checked with tackle underground to see what the might say I have not checked it with the other sites that I belong to I will check it out and let you know if I find out anything but I have not had a issue with the old ones.
Snake until today I had only heard about the size 4.
Thanks for the heads up Skip. Doug told me about the black chrome #4's a while back. I've not have any problems with the new bronze or any other sizes. It may be certain batches only. I need to order 10,000 more, so I hope it improves soon.

Your welcome! NP, I only have some with older hooks coming and the rest I need are on hold until they get some new good ones in. All of us should be needing some size of some of these.
I'm sure alot of folks are watching this thread, and I should have posted this here instead of in a new one, but better safe than sorry.
I sent Don Hoben (Matzuo) a message the other day asking for an update on the Size 4 Black Chrome sickles.
Today I got 2 messages from him. You can see them below, For me, I emailed him back to verify if they were the Size 4 Black Chrome sickles I was looking to have replaced.
This one came in at 6:01 PM today

If you have hooks that are bad this is the guy to contact.
So is the top one the last email? Also what about the other sizes, i know Paul has tested some of 2 other sizes that just came in and they are so brittle they break as easy too.
Skip - Yes the top one is the last email, the bottom one was at 902 am the top one 601PM.
On sizes I only heard about the 2's and 6's yesterday from Pauls post - as I said the 2s and 6s I have seem to be okay but I'm going to test some from the bottom of each box just to be safe!!! My 4's were the pits!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't check my regular email at work anymore so I'll have to wait until i get home tonight. I did tell Don about the 2's and 6's though based on Pauls post!! So the info above is there, anyone can email him and I hope they do!!! As soon as I check mail tonight I'll post if he gets back to me, usually it's 2 days between replies but he's been really good with keeping the communication going!!!!!!!!!
