how do I go about purchasing a keel guard for my cobra boat any suggestions? does one size fits all how does this work
You prolly dont need but a 6 foot one, call Sammy, he has put a couple on.
I had Performance marine in sardis put one on mine. Don't cheap out...get a Hamby.
You just order them according to the size of your boat. Put mine on myself, nothing to it. Keel guard or keel shield, both are good. I've seen both used and GDG and I have installed several.
Actually, this one time, I say cheap out...sorta. On your boat, your not ever going to see 40 mph, so, I'd go with the Hamby's self install. It's higher than the other two, but thicker than either. Probably about sub $200. Directions on the box. Follow them to a T. Take your time and have a buddy to help. Takes about 1.5 hours to install and must sit at least 24 before it gets wet. Put one in my Stratos and ran for 3 years with no issues.
The catch is, if it ever comes off, it will take a good 10 hours to remove and reinstall...that's why Feelay says get the dealer installed Hamby's. but that starts at $400 and probably more like $6. 10 footers are even higher, but I'll guess about $4-5 for your boat and a 6 footer.
Ps, you are ugly.

U gona fix the hole first , or just cover it up with the guard...lol
I've had mine on for at least 6 years with no problems. My rig runs pretty fast and I regularly pull it onto concrete ramps. I think I paid $100.00-115.00 for it,can't remember exactly.
I had a hamby installed by tracy....kinda steep, 700 bucks.
Mine would just have to get scratched before I spent $700.00.
Hate to hijack.....but can these be used on metal boats?
i put this one on my tin boat 2 years back, not had a problem. I put it on the ramp every time I go out.

figure since I got that fixed maby I should put a keel gaurd on it
I need one on my aluminum boat
Hate to say it but wannabee nailed it. Just be sure and run a bead of silicone all the way around the outside edge once it's dry to keep water from penetrating the adhesive.
No you don't hate it! I'm right so much and you have to admit it so often, it ought to just come natural to you by now. Pffft.

1-800-742-2813 $199.95 direct from Hamby's. it really is a far superior product than the keel guard or keel shield.

Thats the one they say to use on tin boats....just going by what I hear. I have emailed both Hambys and Keelguard about tin boats.
Keel guard wont work on my boat its an 97 Tracker and the keel is held on with round head rivets so it doesnt have a good flat surface to grip.
I contacted KeelGuard and Hambys.....Keel Guard replyed back.....here is what they said about putting on aluminum boats. I think it will work on mine.
Aluminum is one of the best surfaces to bond to. The concern is more the
design of the hull. If your boat has the reinforced rib that protrudes off
the hull an inch or so, we do not recommend installing a keel protector. Air
can get trapped in the corner seams and leave too little flat area on the
hull to achieve a strong bond. Many aluminum boats have the raised rib and
are not the best for bonding external material. These "ribs" or reinforced
areas are designed as a built-in keel protector from the manufacturer.
You could still attempt to use the KeelGuard on your boat with the raised
rib, but long term success cannot be guaranteed. It could work for a season
or two or maybe longer but it might fail within the first year. Some
customers have been creative and taken a utility knife and split the
KeelGuard down the center groove and then installed the protector on each
side of the rib where the aluminum is not reinforced.
Unfortunately, we are unaware of any existing product that conforms
specifically to this type of hull. Again, these raised ribs are meant to be
a reinforcement to provide extra protection.
If your boat has a hull that is welded or formed or even has a riveted
plate, then the KeelGuard could work very well as long as the lip/edge of
the keel protector does not come into play with edge of the plate or rivets.

your application in more detail.
Thank you for your interest
Put one on your boat G, you'll love it!!!
Shure do G, I fish by myself quite a bit. I can pull the boat up on the ramp
and not worry bout the bottom getting damaged. I also mounted a Talon on it
So it's still there when I get the trailer.
It's a Triton TC-17, I put the Keelguard kit on myself. It's not hard to install, you have to get it clean.
It comes with scuff pads, too much work.. I used a jitter bug sander with 400 grit to clean hull.
Then you put on the primer. Make Shure it's straight..
It also helps to mark the bottom so you know your working area.
Thank for the info.....put up a picture if you have one
On the aluminum boat.....do I need to remove all the paint in that area? Or just rough it up good ?
G, not sure if u have to remove the paint, I wouldn't think so, my bottom's
Not painted. I would call that 800 # and
Ask them. I had some oxidation and lake scum so I sanded mine. The worst
Part is laying on your back to put it on.
But I won't have a boat without one
Now that I see they're worth!!!
