Have had that happen before, luckily i just had one pole out.
Funny........but dang it man that could have went wrong quickly
The boy was lucky not to have been killed. That much static means lightening is looking for a place to ground. I'll be danged if I would have been worried about getting them in.
Wannabe...
No way to get charged up . Bad.
+100 WB, plus they would have a lota bleeps in there.
Been there. Done that for real. Would not recommend it for recreation.
Happened to ATM and me at the Sardis MCC this spring. Had a couple spare rods in rocket launchers on my t-top that were arcing like crazy. Thought I had a wiring short that was energizing the t-top.
Not yet on the water for me. But in the woods with a rifle.
Dang, that's some crap there. I'm afraid them poles would have ridden to the landing in the rod holders.
+1, happened to me and my cuz at Sardis a couple of years back, not cool :):)
Very dangerous situation! I hope I'm never around anything like that!
Happened to me this year at Sardis on April 9th. Had a few thunderstorms go through before daylight that morning but when it was happening their was not any lightning or thunder. I was strolling with a pole in each hand and everytime my ring on each hand would get close to the cut in the handle made for feel it would light me up. Some others on the lake said their poles were actually humming. I have had my line not want to go down when bass fishing in thunderstorms but if I had not experienced this I wouldn't have believed it.
I researched this when I got home and when this occurs you are definitly in grave danger of being struck. You can be struck from as far as 100 miles away from the storm. When this occurs you should put the poles down and crank up and ride. What makes it tough is the fish were jumping in the boat when this was happening.
