Yeah, Dwyane, there were four boatloads of guys/gals at the concrete wier off Joseph Harbor yesterday, and at least one guy was tossing a net. Didn't stop to see how they were doing - too crowded for me to even get close. I'd imagine if they were catching shrimp, those were mosquitoes. Give it a couple of weeks, though...

Nice fish. What weight line do you use in the marsh? Both of the rigs I have are just 3 weight. I would guess you'd need at least a 6 for reds and specks?

I usually use a 9-weight - it handles my big flies better in the wind than lighter sticks, though I will use a 6-weight on calm days.
Funny thing - the 9-weight I use now actually weighs LESS than any of the 6-weights I own! Amazing stuff, this new technology!

Nice red! I have a fly set up for marsh fishing that I haven't used yet. I am gonna have to get it out and go one day. A 9wt redington. Some clouser minnows and spoons.

I am not positive but I am willing to bet he put in at Joesph's harbor and yes boats are allowed and needed if you want to get to the better fishing/crabbing/shrimping. Joesph's harbor is off of hwy 82 between grand chenier and pecan island. There is a east and a west launch. I usually put in at the west launch b/c I know that area better.Quote:

If I may expound a bit on Dwyane's info.
It takes me just under two hours to get from Cade to Joseph Harbor. I mention that because of some regulations. First, you cannot access the east launch before official sunrise. Second, while you can launch your boat off the west launches before sunrise, you cannot pass the signs until that time. That drive-time prevents me from sitting in my truck waiting on the sun to come up!
I strongly suggest that you are compliant in all departments - boating, fishing, licensing, etc. And remember, it is all a wildlife refuge, so please treat it as such.
And bring your camera - there is a LOT of pic-material out there!
