Spray it with some of that bedliner stuff.
Go ahead and buy some Stainless Steel Chain and it wont rust!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought a pail of zinc plated 3/8" of 15 feet at Harbor Freight for $25 or so. Zinc plating is supposed to prevent rust so I have heard.
No problem. I have 5 foot sections on 37' of rope with a hook to put them on the bow or stern.
Get you a couple of bicycle inner tubes. Cut them and slide chain into them. Use wire ties to pinch them off at each end. Won't scratch up anything, less likely to tangle with anything and no rust to rub off on anything.
You could prolly heat it up and it would shrink down on it like shrink wrap too. Not sure but it seems like it'd work
You can use Plasti Dip from Home Depot. Bout 7 bucks a can. Multi colors too. Black, red, blue, etc.
I keep my chains in a small bucket.
Rusty chain is better than smooth chain. It slows the boat better since the surface area is rough and grabs mud better.
