Have you tried it yet. I normally use garlic.
Yes I use it all the time. Works great
Made my first batch, can't wait to try it out!
Let me know how it goes for you. Post pics here if you can.
I will, hopefully it works out better than previous fishing trips this year.
Well, I tried it today. Caught one 8" cat....nothing else. Not overly impressed and am wondering if the video was just a joke...
Not a joke. I use this bait a lot. This and live perch is all I use. Try it again.
That guy on the video said 1/4 '' and made 5 cuts. 6 x 1/4'' would only be 1 and 1/2 '' hot dogs.:bash I've heard about using hotdogs but guess Channel Catfish would hit them as they will eat almost anything. Sounds like cheap bait if it works good. I've seen guys bait trotlines with dog food out of a bag too.
Ok, I will stand corrected. Today I used my original batch I made about two weeks ago. It has been sitting outside since Tuesday, and today I gave it a half hearted try on 2 noodles. I had one on both noodles, got one in the boat, a 20"er. The other broke the line...so hopefully ill catch him another day.
I have done the same thing using red food coloring and garlic salt added. Works good. Also take chicken pieces and mix it with strawberry cool aid.
Post some pictures of your fish of you can
Couldn't of said it better myself! Great video!
Finally got the pic of the wife's camera.Attachment 128460
Good looking cat
during the "dog":biggrin days of summer, I drift fish the mo river a lot. there are days when fresh bait is hard to find, so I always keep a cheap pack of dogs in the bait cooler, too. learned the trick from folks who float jugs down the river. they catch fish on dogs all the time.
never used cool aid but I have used cherry jello and that works good. I also use them fresh out of the pack, and loaded with garlic salt. honestly i think they work equally well regardless.
I usually catch small blues with the occasional channel cat thrown in the mix. never caught one over ten pounds, but there are days when dogs will out-catch fresh cut and live bait. it's not my go-to bait for sure but they do work for eater sized fish.
Here is a video of how to hook the bait.
How To Hook World Famous Catfish Bait - YouTube
Go to a processing plant and get some beef or pork blood, let it coagulate, set up 2 saw horses with plywood as a table, set the blood out in the sun, sprinkle with brown sugar, and let it bake in the sun for a couple hours. Put it back in the bucket after it cooks and it's ready to go when you are. Pull out a piece and cut it up into small cubes and your ready to go. Stays on the hook no problem, even in water with a little current.
My brother in law and I jug Ft. Cobb with dogs during the summer months and catch some pretty nice blues and channels. Soem blues in excess of 15 lbs. Good bait and I too always have some in my arsenal.
Garlic hotdogs have done as well as fresh cut shad. I did not believe that hotdogs could do as well as shad, but I have used them often enough to know. Hotdogs do work. The Kool Aid addition should work, but, in my opinion, the key is the grease and odor emitting from the meat. Garlic has a much stronger odor and that is why I use it. I use garlic powder or garlic salt and salt them liberally then nuke a batch for 3 - 4 minutes to toughen and absorb the garlic. This is an inexpensive bait and works very well.
