I caught about 40 and kept 20 yesterday afternoon. They were still deep even though the river had been dropped several feet back to normal. I was catching them on black/chart, black/red jigs but mainly on chart or orange roadrunners tipped with minnows. Fishing in 15-24 feet of water and catching them 8-12 feet deep. I got to try oput my new spider rig I made. It worked great.

Good fish especially in that chocolate milk it looks like you were fishing in. I think I may head back to blue mountain next time I fish. Is anyone catching them shallow in the cypress trees? Thanks for the report!

This is my first year to crappie fish the river and it's working out pretty good. Caught 40 one day and about 45 the other time. Towards the end of my trip I used a double minnow rig on one of my rods and it was working almost as good as the road runners tipped with minnows. I did not just try a bobber and minnow because I was really just trolling the entire time. If you had it set the right depth and were in the right spot then it should work with a slip float.Quote:

I might make a trip there tomorrow afternoon. Would be nice to meet up with a local for that lake. I'm in a green and white triton bass boat. Put on the lake itself once. So shallow in so many spots. Think I idled almost everywhere I went.
When you put in at the ramp, you head up river or down? I've gone quite a ways up river once. Down river not so far. I think there are some shallow water markers not to far down from the ramp. That's where I turned around and headed up river instead. I was just throwing at the shoreline though and watching my depth finder to see if I might stumble upon some brush but never saw anything.
Might have been my old electronics though. Last summer I did huge upgrades to them though. Right now I'm just having a lot of fun driving around and seeing all the stuff I never saw before with my old equipment. Maybe I'll see you out there.

Went down there Saturday evening. I started from the launch and went down river. Wasn't sure how deep to go in the channel. I stayed at about 13' and trolled my bait around 8' deep. I caught a bunch of 6" fish. After a while I started checking them thinking it was the same darn fish over and over!! Nothing any bigger. I probably went 200 yards down the river and then back up on the other side of the bank. Should I be going further down river before I start fishing?
I fished at Hise Hill this past weekend, and my family has been every day this week. No problem catching fish, although most have been very small. Each trip we'll catch a couple pretty good sized ones, and usually end up with a limit by the end of the day. We started with jigs tipped with minnows, but then switched to jigs tipped with crickets and have had better luck with that.
We wnt saturday and caught a bunch of little ones too. We kept about 15 eaters. They are getting smaller it seems! LOL
