Anyone hitting Wappanocca? I hope they are on!
I went yesterday and never got a bite. No one that I talked to was catching fish.
i went to poinsett and nobody was doing too much there either......
caught one little ole crappie yesterday and thats it. did see signs that the fish may have spawned already at wappa.
turns out what i saw was just minnow babies! heard some other news today but have to double check it!
What was the water color. Last time I was there it was high and muddy
Last time I was there the water was a little muddy and water temps where cold,cold,cold... Plenty of great structure to fish though and looked very breamy!!! In May I gotsa date with them bream in there.
Joe, i hope the weather gets right by then! This up and down stuff is not helping out there!
Well guys, from what im hearing, we may have to find another lake this year. I was told that a study was recently done and it didnt look very promising.
Im with ya on that! Eastern ark is slow playing the game!
Now everybody is starting to understand why this boy from Jonesboro will drive 2-3 hundred miles on the weekend to fish. If the MS river is in all oxbows, were is a man to go around here to catch nice slabs?
Can't talk myself into driving 2-300 miles each weekend, so I guess I'll just whine a little louder. :biggrin
Lol the river today is 27.7 ft, which should be in just about the chutes now. Heard it might get as high as 33.
NEAR ain't nothing like the fishing in the other parts of the state or even fishing across the state line. I wouldn't mind driving to fish, but it comes down to time and money both of which are hard to have a surplus of. I'm surprised the fishing is not any better in the St Francis. There are some good fish there, but it is tough fishing until the fall and then the main attraction is the bass.
I feel for you guys. I thought my 30 minute drive to Conway was bad. There's no way I could afford to drive 200 miles to the fishin hole on a regular basis, that's like 3 tanks of gas in my ole Chevy.
heard they did one last year and that they had a bad spawn but we had a good year on the bream.
i currently live in conway now, but I grew up in east arkansas(marion) and ive been home about four times this year to fish with the ole man and most lakes have been a little slow for us so we have resorted to the barr pits outside of marked tree. We have caught some good limits out of there. Has anyone else over there tried them lately? with the warmer temps there is a lot of structure in 2-7ft of water, so it should be good.
its a shame that old 96 chute is closed now, that sucker used to be produce countless limits of crappie every year it seemed.
Are you talking about Monterey? We have done ok there in Spring the past couple years but haven't fished it yet this year.
I haven't fished the bar pits out of Marked Tree in a few years but we used to do pretty good there in the spring.

Thanks mojo!
Don't make me go down there and catch a mess of fish. The biggest crappie I ever had in hand up until last weeks camp came from there. I didn't catch it. I haven't been there in years, but would be interested if the bream were doing good.
talked to the refuge manager today. he told me that they did do a count last tuesday, only in the open water. unfortunately they didnt hardly see a thing, but also wasnt able to get into the trees and check. he said that the oxygen levels in the water may have something to do with it, (no signs of dead fish floating thou). the fishing reports he was getting were a few crappie being caught but said that this might not be a good year for them. not many bream were being caught yet but he was optimistic about them.
Thanks for the report
Did awesome on the bream there last year and they were big. We had several great trips. Hopefully they will be better than the nonexistent crappie have been this year.
Last year was a great year. Most everyone did well. Ill try to keep everyone updated as i hear things. I really hope the lake turns around. Was really looking forward to the spawn this year!
