Any of yall ever cut the shaft shorter? I would like to take about 9 inches off. How did yall go about doing it? Thanks.

I've got a 54" and wanted to do the same cut some off but after a few trips out on the water I've come to the conclusion that I will leave mine as is
the way the motor deploys and retracts made this desion for me
if you have not used yours much or at all maybe try it out for a couple trips just to get use to it then make up your mind
hope this helps
oh and if you trim it it voids your warrenty, you have to take it to a minnkota service center to keep your warrenty good
Pretty easy to do just pull the head unit off be careful to not cut thru the wires and cut the plastic shaft off to the length you need. Drill one hole the holds the head on and shorten the wires good to go.
When I did mine I put a small piece of angle iron inside the shaft to protect the wires while I cut the shaft with a hacksaw.
Shortened mine . I used a piece of metal tubing over wires to protect them from getting cut. Like the others said easy to do just take your time.
Cant you use a pipe cutter and not worry about nicking wires and it will be a straighter cut.
I used a hack saw. It worked great. To bad my hands burned for about 24 hrs. That shaft is made from some nasty stuff. Thanks for the help.
