I've been looking at getting an American Angler or a Mister Twister Piranha. I think either one would be good. I've never used one with straight blades like the MT has, and was wondering if they work better.

My american angler stripped gears after one year so I just bought a new piranha. I prefer the straight blades. Just hope the piranha last longer than the angler did.
I have the piranha and love it. Works really well.
I love my new piranha, its a great knife so far..only a few hundred crappie so far..I had its little brother,,the green and yellow one,,it bit the dust in short order..but so far,,loving the piranha.
I was sadly disappointed in my pirahna. It ain't got the umph I was expecting after reading all the hype on it. Its not necessarily a bad knife, just not much better than the rest.
I am leaning towards the piranha. I think I will like the straight blades, but wasn't sure how well they would work. I have a berkley now, and its been a piece of junk since I bought it. Either one will be a better knife than it.
I have owned several different kinds and the American Angler has held up best for me, especially on larger numbers of catfish at one time. And yes I have had problems with them too but fewer problems.
I have and use the American Angler with metal gears. It has held up very nicely for the last 4 years. I dont plan on buying any other brand.
Get the American angler saltwater edition with the 11 inch shark blades. Saltwater edition doesn't have plastic gears. Those shark blades will zip through any fish I will eat. Even a buffalo.
My American Angler is 15-20 years old... The blades are as well..
American angler I 100% agree is the best knife I've ever used I had one lasted 3yrs!!! I beat it to death!!!
Black and Decker here. Just got it at Walmart for less than $13.00 I think. Last one lasted about 6-8 years, but for $12.00 or so, got another one, and it's been going a while. The others get too hot for me after a few fish. And Work Sharp knife sharpening tool keeps even the serrated blades sharp.
Course, I don't catch or clean the amount of fish y'all do, either.
I would recommend eBay. I got a steal on mine when I bought it. Even if they don't make it anymore, I bet you can find one on there. If not, id go with the mr twister saltwater edition. Seems like that salt water edition electric knives are way more durable that freshwater.
I have had my American Angler one from Wally-Wolrd (I think). Its the 12volt version, with cig lighter plug on it. It has been nothing but great for me. I also have a Rapala, but I like the AA one better. The AA has no problems cutting thru the rib bones of the 20 lb blues I pull out of the White River on trotlines, and has been cutting them up for about 5 years now.
Welcome To American Angler... You can find what you are lookin for here. I've had one of these for 15 years and never changed the blades. Highly recommended.
AA for me! Had mine for 3 years now and it's still a hummin!
Just a word of advice for the folks using a 12 volt system,if you plug it into your truck, make sure its running. You'll get alot more power out of the knife.
I don't know if it is an option for ya but I have nothing but good things to say about my Rapala Lithium Ion Cordless Fillet Knife. It was $100.00 It tends to have more consistant power than my corded Knifes and really last a long time, I have used it up to 3 trips on a single charge.
I have an American Angler and I like it. It will plug in to a cig lighter or clamp on a battery or you can plug it in a wall! My grandpa cleans more fish than a tuna cannery and he uses a Mister Twister with the button taped down to keep it running constant. He has used the same one for years and years he contributes the long life to the button being taped down to keep it cool from the constant on/off while cleaning em'.
Ended up with the MT Piranha. Works better than my other one, but not as well as i hoped. Still struggles going through the ribs (maybe its me). Works great filleting the skin side though. Couldn't find an AA saltwater.
