Anybody finding any? I have a buddy that found about 200 tonight but I haven't had any luck.
Looked 2 days ago. Didn't find any. Might go look tomorrow if we get rain tonight. My 2.5 yr old daughter still had a good time. We heard turkeys, found a turkey feather, saw deer rubs, hoof prints, and turkey poop.
Went out this evening and found about 130. Time to heat up the grease!
We will be out tomorrow.
Y'all talken morels? Can share general area? Like north central, NE, NW, se, sw, SC?
Went out today. Found an arrow w/ broadhead but no morels. Another guy found a pile of them, but he said they were only in one little spot but they were thick. Hopefully it warms up this week cause I have a few days off to find them.
Found about 55 more small grays tonight.
Nice work. I think you guys may have got a jump start with the warm front the other day. Howard, KS was showing 75 while my house never got above 48. We got the moisture which I thought was limiting us during the early warm days. I have all next week to hunt mushrooms and fish.
Zummy, do you live in Hartford? I have alot of great memories in the mid 80's and early 90's quail hunting around that area. Is the quail population looking any better? How about the cafe and bar across the street in town?
Just starting to find little ones around Fort Riley. Maybe this week?
Took the daughter out with me after work. I was pretty sure she thought morels were like unicorns since we hadn't been finding any. However on the way back to the truck we found 1. She was pretty proud of it. Hope to find some more later this week.
Need some sun and heat. Found about 35 today. Mostly small greys.
My son and I did a little urban hunting this evening. He's a newbie and wouldn't you know right out the door, up the ditch and 3 yellows about 3" tall where right there. Enjoyed the venture with him and now he's learning about morels and pepperoni pizza. We ended up with about the same numbers, 35. Bye BAM!!
I was finding good numbers the last few days, but wondering what this freeze will do to them....?
Well my daughter wanted to go mushroom hunting. So off we went. 3 month old strapped on my chest and daughter walking. Then she decides she wants Dad to carry her. So I have her riding on my shoulders. Didn't find any mushrooms (hard to look with a talkative 2.5 yr old having a death grip on your chin) and Daddy is wore out.
Those are great times
Better get out now. Took the daughter out for an hour this AM. we found 12 and a turkey feather so her day was made. My cousins have been picking them up by the sackful. They are dropping some off to supplement our meager finds. I know I could find a lot more leaving the daughter at home, but I would rather find 12 with her along than a bucketful with her sitting at home watching TV.
:highfive All I can say is you better get out there. It's on
Still out there for the taking.
zummy-do you think a fresh crop will pop down there this week or do you think it's over soon? brother-in-law and i picked over 20 pounds down there last weekend.
Betting its over soon.
Picked these yesterday. As you can see there are quite a few in there that were in various stages of drying. There were quite a few that weren't even worth picking. I am pretty sure we are done. Best morel season anybody can remember. Guy I work with takes off 2 weeks to mushroom hunt, and they have been going to Northern KS.

My son and I found around 80 Sunday. good stuff
The mushrooms are thick as thieves up here in Manhattan/Ft. Riley area. The big blondes are all over the place, most the size of a baseball!
Agree! I am not a great morel hunter, but I found over 30 in about a half hour this morning without leaving my 2 acres. About 20 were in perfect condition. The rest were either drying out or rotting and I ended up tossing them back in the areas they came from. Catch and release...:Rofl Got a hot grease bath planned for the rest of them tomorrow night!:biggrin
