Lake Conway

If any body is thinking of going to Conway you better take some extra weights with you, Lake Conway is so muddy right now, a 1/16th ounce jig floats on top of the water. The bite was slow today to say the least. If it had been much slower it would have been non Existent. Barring no more heavy rains I think it will clear up by the middle to latter part of next week. Right now the brightest chartreuse is not visible after about 1'inch into the water. The fish might as well have been wearing blinders. The whole lake is nasty right now. It might be a good time to catfish, they feed by smell instead of sight anyway. They have 3 gates open I believe and you can almost feel the lake drop underneath your boat.

Three is better than 15 and I will be closing them early in the morning. Hopefully the lake will clear up and the bite will pick up. Water quality tests are still good. When this is all done, maybe someone can show me a thing or two or ten. I have a peraonal goal to learn how to catch crappie on Lake Conway better than I can now by the time my little boy is 5. He is three and a half now and he is already a fishing fool. I Would be honored if a crappie pro could show a biologist a few tricks.

Has anyone got any bream lately? Was gonna try tomorrow but not sounding to good now.

Matt, the more gates when the lake is muddy like it is now, the better, it draws the muddy water Down The lake and sends it to the river, the northeast end of the lake up at palarm is already starting to clear. I ain't griping, I am just letting people know so that if they had Lake Conway on thier schedule they have time to make adjustments so that they have a productive day of fishing, Matt I would be glad to help you or Matt H. With lake Conway, we have a common interest, to help and teach future generations learn what the Natural state has to offer. I can and will give you any help that I can, I do not want lake Conway to go down in history as the lake that used to be the best in the natural state. Lake Conway is a good lake. I am glad that the water tests are good, that is really good news. Lake Conway has a lot to offer still, and people should take full advantage of the opportunity. The crappie fishing is great In lake Conway, the Only lake In the state that I have seen that can hold a candle to Conway is Dardanelle. I ain't sure that there is many lakes in Arkansas that can hold its own against Conway when it Comes to bream fishing. Lake Conway has a very robust flathead catfish population. The channel cat and blue cat population is nothing to sneeze at, I have caught blue cat out of lake Conway up into the 30 pound class range and flathead up to 63 pounds. I have caught my fair share of crappie in the 3 pound range also. The redear and the bluegill fishing is also very productive, if you or anyone is interested In getting a kid into fishing, I suggest taking them to Conway and do a little bream fishing, I will give anyone directions to some of the bream beds I have fished for over 30yrs, they never change for some reason. I am lucky, I am a 3rd generation fisherman of lake Conway, so I have been taught by 2 generations before me, I have a lot to share.

Use live bait and you may be ok. The bream are not ready to bed up just yet, I was there all day today and the water temp ranged from 58 degrees to 65 degrees, when the whole lake gets to 60 to 65 degrees overall and stay there, then They will start to bed up.

I grew up fishing Lake Conway for bream, it's where I learned how to do everything from cast a line to "sit down and fish boy". I just moved back to the state and have loved being able to get back on Conway. We always fished bream out of there but I'm trying to find the crappie now and add it to my crappie lakes. I'm glad I'm not the only one that has had trouble. I was starting to get discouraged for making it a crappie lake. I spent way too long on the water yesterday getting skunked and am glad that it might not have been just me.

You are not alone. I fished for four hours and only caught three. It should be heating up soon so dont give up. Cobway is an excellent Crappie lake at times.

Me and a buddy got some crickets and fished yesterday, only caught one bream. They ain't there yet

Fished it for 6 hours Saturday and(501) 269-1714 only caught 2 fish been getting my butt kicked on this lake last couple of trips , water was muddy but temps were from 59 to 63 degrees , not sure what's going on but it has been tough lately

I fished it yesterday and caught one good size crappie in the first minutes and then nothing after that. I was jigging the main lake on the south end.

Y'all must be fishing Paradise?
That's the only muddy water I have seen... Seems due to them pumping water across Hwy 89.

Been fishing Pierce managing a mess a trip. Early last week was fishing around 89 bridge and was doing good till the current stopped...

I got shut out on Conway yesterday too. That lake has been tough for me the last few trips. Hadnt found em there yet this year.

The wife and kids and I ended up catching 10 bull bream with an hour of daylight left. Wish we could have found them earlier in the afternoon. I also caught 3 little crappie on the crickets we were using. It ought to get cranked up real soon.

I also started out Bream fishing there in the 60's with my dad. :cheers2 He used a sculling paddle for more than moving the boat if needed.:yikes Mother used to say he beat fishing into me is the reason for my interest in fishing.:Rofl

He should have used the paddle a few more times....it didn't take!!!!!!!!! My first memory of fishing is Conway also...mom and dad took me. Dad baited my hook and said watch the red bobber....I did...it went down under the water....Dad ask son where is your bobber....it went right there...........nobody said pull up when it goes under. Even today I am too slow on the uptake.

I wish I could recant memories like these but I am not a second or third generation fisherman. I found a passion for fishing on my own. With that said i have missed out, I am pretty sure I've never fished with crickets and the only bream I fish for are small one's from a pond for jugging. I have been amassing as much knowledge as i can and have been fishing a lot the last few years so I can be knowledgeable and able to spend time fishing with my children. I'd love to fish Conway for some redears and when I get that chance I will prolly be pestering you guys for tips so be prepared!
