what cables do i need to hook my hb 798 to my terrova ipilot link and still be able to hook up transducer
If that is a 798ci HD Si model unit and you are meaning the Ethernet connection, than you will need the AS-EC-QDE Ethernet Adapter for the 700E series units: AS EC QDE
(check with board sponsors for better pricing).
I was referring to the sonar and transducer. The sonar and transducer look to have the same end but only one of those outlets on ff. Do i need a y cable with those two ends? Thanks
Do you have the US2 sonar on your Terrova?
If so and you are wanting to use it with your 798 unit, you will need the MKR-US2-8 cable from Minn Kota to connect them. If you use the US2 transducer you will not have any Si or Di sonar.
Yes i have the terrova with ipilot link and am trying to get it all hooked up with the hb 798
Those are the only two ways you can connect a trolling motor to a Humminbird unit.
I am confused (which is not hard to do when its electronics) do i need to hook the transducer that came with the unit up or do i need to just hook the trolling motor sonar up or both ?
Either or but not both. If you use the built in (us2) you will loose down and side image.
You say the Terrova has iPilot link...but does it have the US2 sonar Xducer in the foot of the TM...??
If it does have the US2 Xducer in the TM..
What Greg is saying is that "if" you want to use the US2 (2d) Xducer that is in the foot of the TM ....then hooking up the US2 to the HB SI series unit will disable the SI/DI function of your SI unit...
The iPilot link is completely different from the sonar functions of the xducers ...in that the iPilot link "talks" to the HB head unit thru the Ethernet cable that Greg listed...
And the "talk" between iPilot link and the HB is only waypoints, routes, tracks, etc,...(not sonar functions)...
Rickie
And another problem is when i just turned the unit on for the first time its just a white screen ????
Sorry toofuss...we must have been typing at the same time...
Thanks
Rickie
Thanks now i understand it !!!!
I bought a mkr 15 mount for trolling motor do i have to have an adapter to attach the transducer to the mkr 15 bracket
Sorry just saw where u replied. No i went ahead and ran a seperate wire for the ff and it fixed it
I would exchange the transducer that came with your 798 unit for the trolling motor version (XTM-9-Si-180-T) and mount it to your trolling motor and forget about the US2 sonar.
What is the specific model name of your 798 unit Mickey?
I don’t know what a “mkr 15 mount” is either…
I was just going on what the sales guy told me and sold me [wrong thing to do i guess] . He sold me a minn kota trolling motor mount and said the transducer that came with the unit would work with it but it didn't . So today i went to gander mtn and the sales [expert] there sold me a different one and it didn't work either . Greg its a 798ci SI
You can either follow Greg's advice and exchange your Xducer for the XTM-9-Si-180-T...(if your Xducer is new)...
http://store.humminbird.com/products...XTM_9_SI_180_T
Or buy this TM adapter hardware to mount your compact SI to the TM...
AD XTM 9 :: Humminbird
Or this from Transducer Shield and Saver...
Transducer Shield and Saver - See More Fish, Catch More Fish! - TM-Csi
Or...or....or...
You can use this HDSI TM Xducer and get better 455kHz images ...due to the longer SI crystals in this xducer...
(This Xducer also has 800kHz but your 798 does not have the circuitry to read the 800)..
http://store.humminbird.com/products...M_9_HDSI_180_T
Is that enough options to boggle your brain...??
Rickie
Rickie, you're a trouble maker. :)
U seem to have this all down pat which of those would u do Rickie
I don't know about "down pat" mikey.....I just read .....a lot....:)
My personal preference (if I was in your situation)... Would be to get the HDSI Xducer to be able to get better images than the Compact SI Xducer that came with the 798....
With that said...there are 2 options for mounting the HDSI Xducer to a TM...
This one comes with the TM hardware....
XTM 9 HDSI 180 T :: Humminbird
Or get the same standard HDSI Xducer ...(with no TM hardware)..
XHS 9 HDSI 180 T :: Humminbird
AND get this better TM mounting bracket from Scap at Transducer Shield and Saver...
Transducer Shield and Saver - See More Fish, Catch More Fish! - Browse
It may be a little extra investment going with the HDSI Xducer....but I think you would be more satisfied with the better 455kHz images you would get ....
(And check with board sponsors for the HB products...they'll give you a better deal than ordering from HB....)
Rickie
+1 on the HDSi transducer + Transducer Shield & Saver adapter.
