I didn't know that what we do is illegal......an incident I had at Enid.

Went to enid for a little while yesterday. A thunderstorm made us go to the landing.....when we loaded the boat, a guy pulls up next and takes his boat out. I noticed that the tag was an out of state tag, not gonna mention a state. He asked me if we were trolling, and I said yes. i tried to be polite and start a conversation about fishing and how we and he did, when he started to give me a lecture about how trolling is the same as "commercial" fishing, that it should be illegal, and we may as well have a "seine". Then. without another word, he got in the truck, slammed the door and took off. I don't get upset at much, and I welcome out of staters to our lakes as long as they abide by our lake laws........in fact, I sometimes go out of my way to help out of staters when I can. But, needless to say, this guy really got under my skin, he was really rude, and I did not appreciate him being out of state and telling me what I need to do on my home lake and what should be illegal...I told him that I don't set the rules, I just follow them. Sorry for the rant, but had to vent and share this experience with ya'll.

Hate ya had a bad experience, long as ya fish it legally, people should respect your technique of choice. Wish people worried as much about what they were doing as much as they worry what others are doing.

I ran into a couple at Enid last year that was from a state not too far north of here that used almost those same exact words.....I think my reply was something to the effect of lake raping, freezer totin fish sellers- or something like that....I dont remember so good anymore

Some folks just gotta blow your candel out to make their's brighter. That's sad....sounds like maybe Missouri folks by your hits of location, and that really p----- me off, cause it gives the rest of us who enjoy your lakes and your friendships a bad rap. Some folks just orta be b---- slapped soon as their feet hit the floor for what they FIXIN to say or do.

I really don't like to generalize....an azzhat is an azzhat -not restricted to any one states boat numbers. In my experience, I have run into alot of folks this time of year that have the attitude of " I drove X hunnerd miles I'm a gonna catch a fish by gawd". I have no problem helping someone out- but they are more likely to get help with some common courtesy than an entitlement attitude

My buddy from Mo left his boat at my place since the big mama because he is returning this week. Anyway seeing that his is bigger and all I have been taking his out instead of mine. I must say people do look at you different with a mo sticker on the side. At first I could not understand why the people that dont really know me but always carry on friendly conversation on the water were now turning there heads to me and almost giving me the cold shoulder! One guy asked where I was from and I said here, where u from.. He said here, why u got MO tags. and thats when I knew what the problem was. Out of staters take my advice, do not be rude to the locals. These people were raised fishing these lakes and think they own them. I have heard too many stories of tires cut. Just last week all 4 truck tires AND trailer tires were cut at grace port on a MO boys truck. Half of us arent too bad its the other half you got to watch out for.

I have been burglarized 4 time in ms 2 at butla and 2at sardis,sure wish i coul catch em.

That is pretty bad, they come to your state to take your fish and they give you grief about the way you fish. If they came to Georgia they would lock up, because everybody in Georgia has rod holders on the sides and backs of their boats and the pushers have them on the front. We don't have rules on the amount of rods you can troll with. They would have a PETA fit here in Georgia. LOL. I have trolled with 18 rods out before, mostly because my brother-in-law wanted to see how many rods he could fish out of the back of the boat. Wes

I am so sorry if they were from Indiana , every state has a few we just have to shake our heads at . Next time this happens , you can tell them if your not happy with our states rules as an American you can go on back home ! Nobody made you come here ! it's like anything else, you have to take the good with the bad. i've run into some pretty ignorant and rude "home folks", lol, also. you cannot group people into one category.i was at lakeway 2 weeks ago and there were three groups of out of staters.....iowa, illinois, and south carolina, and all were friends meeting here to fish. they were as nice as can be, and we talked for 30 minutes or so. one had a map of grenada lake, and I pointed out several spots they could try, and i hattold them all i knew (which isn't much, lol) at the time to help them catch a few fish........i really enjoyed chatting with them. the vast majority of out of staters are courteous and friendly, but there are a few bad apples...........just like there are a few bad apples of mississipians. i think that this is a sport that should be enjoyed by all americans from everywhere as long as laws are obeyed. i would like to go to iowa, illinois, or missouri to fish for smallmouths, trout, or steelhead sometimes if i can, and i would like to feel welcomed.

I don't normally fish 18 rods but he was using every rod holder I had. Some hadn't been used in years as I had upgraded to better rod holders. I can tell you when you have 18 rods out and you hook a hybrid it can turn into a disaster quickly. LOL. Wes

Duckhunter I have had the same conversation at Butla more than once with locals. Been called a lake raper morn once at the ramp and bait stores. Had one last week wouldn't even speak to me at the ramp waiting to load up. I just don't pay any attention to em anymore. Figure they got enough upset going on for both of us so let em carry it and I'll go on and enjoy my day. Do know how a out of towner would get you going haven't had that one happen yet.

I remember!

All the corp would have to do, if they cared, would be post a sign that the parking lot is under camer survelliance and vandals would be prosecuted to the fullest extent. Then put some camers up high enough to be visable and you wouldn't even have to hook em up. That might deter some of these ^&%$#@*%!'s from acting fools. Just a thought....

They have some cameras covering some of the pay boxes in the campground areas

I'm sorry it happened Duck. I wouldn't think a MO fisherman would say that. Every one of them I know has trolling racks.

There are idiots in MS,ARK,MO,TN,and every state in the US.Had a local in a yachet almost sink my boat yesterday and I wanted to kick him square in the face.But a guy from KY helped me winch my boat down without even asking.Dont judge people by the state but by their character.

I was right in the middle of a storm on Enid last Friday. People were tense but everyone around me at the ramp (majority of boats were from Missouri and Illinois) was polite and we helped each other get off the lake. I have talked with numerous people from Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, etc. on Enid and Sardis over the past few weeks. Everyone I've talked with were very friendly, courteous and thankful to be fishing those lakes. Several of them mentioned a "dream trip" or "trip of a lifetime". Hopefully, we can all get along. I think there are enough fish in these lakes and we don't need to be fighting over them. I had a guy attack me verbally about trolling on Sardis in February. It's a volitile issue with some people on the lakes and I hope it doesn't lead to someone getting hurt.
