I have not personally. I have heard that Gunpowder can produce some nice catches. I just haven't made it there yet. Let us know if you had any luck.
I have caught some really nice crappie in gunpowder over the last few years, i think the biggest was 16-17 inch. But for some reason the last few times last year i didnt do so well.
Is gunpowder creek hard to get into off the river. Never fished it. I have fished big bone, woolpers, paintlick, sugar and craigs.

Easy to access either put in at Trixie's which is right on gunpowder. Or put in at big bone landing, head north on the river and gunpowder is the second creek on the right.Quote:

Did you ever make this trip?
I am headed to Boone's Landing this weekend in my jon boat to see if I can find some crappies in the shallow brush. I was wondering whether you had any success. I debated between Trixie's and Boone's Landing - I've never put a boat in at either. I'm going to try Boone's Landing this time. I have only a trolling motor and jon boat so I won't go so far as the river.
I am hoping to find some good stick ups and brush in Big Bone creek but I haven't seen it so I don't know. I'll report back after I go.
kissfan4,
Sent you a PM.

So me and my fiance fished gunpowder for a few hours last night and had a few 12+ inch crappie, man they were fun to catch. I wil post pics when I can
Good to hear. I'm going to try putting in at Trixie's Marina tomorrow and see if I can catch any crappie out of Gunpowder.
My dad and I fished Big Bone yesterday, putting in at Boone's Landing. We fished for 4-5 hours with modest success. We were crappie fishing but managed only 3 crappie. We caught 2 Warmouth, 2 gills, 2 LMB (10" and 13"). 1 black crappie 8.5, and 2 whites - one at 9 and the other at 10.5. So, the crappie we caught were decent size, just not many of them. As you hang a right out of the ramp and come around the turn following the creek towards the river, there are all kinds of nice looking brush piles and stick ups on the right size. We fished them hard but the fish seemed very scattered yesterday.
Anyway - it's a place I will try again at some point.
Any suggestions on gunpowder for crappie? When I look at Google Earth's view of the creek, I don't see a lot of noticable trees and brush in the water (though I see a lot of boat docks).
There are a lot of stumps, many of them are just under the surface. There is a decent amount of cover, yesterday I was caught 5 of them off of some cover I would never think would hold fish. Without giving you my spots, it seems like they were on the real small limb brushy stuff, rather than the bigger limbs.
