There once was a fish, a crappie was its name
It was different from the other fish, definitely not the same
As it swam around taking a gander at all the different bait
It noticed the crappie sliders, thinking that could be ate
The mighty crappie, fearless and hungry made its approach
And consumed the slider, thinking at least its not a roach
All of a sudden it was pulled against it will
Hooked by a crappie.com member in its paper mouth, not the gill
It was carefully fileted and cleaned and prepared for the frying
And happy was the fisherman, smiling and full, definitely not crying.

Spring weather is a comin'
Crappie bout to be a spawnin'
I'm sitting at work a dreamin'

My boat is at home a cryin'
All of my buddies are out a fishin'
While I'm at work a workin'

Minnows at the bait shop a swimmin'
Limits of fish are being a takin'
I'm taking off work and going a fishin'

Here I sit all broken hearted,
Wishing that for the lake I may be departed.
Boredom sets in as I sit at work,
While browsing on crappie.com I sit eating lunch with my fork.
I ponder of all the fish I could be catching,
While sitting at the desk with whiteout all my mistakes patching.
Preparing my mind for the weekend to come,
On crappie.com I will read much to work on the skills I need to hone,
There is much work that needs to be done...not,
I'm just going to continue preparing for all the fish that will be caught!!!

Red jig, blue jig, green jig, black.
A twitch in my line, which tightens the slack.
With the raise of my rod, the sickle is set.
The live well is full and our limit is met.
Another day out of excitement and fun.
Seem like we just started, but were officially done.
I take one last glance at the GPS screen
As we head back in, to get ready to clean
Stories, laughter, and jabbering from the mouth
Drinking cold ones by the fire as it runs out
Waking the next morning, breakfast to attend
Thanking the good lord you get to go out again

This little ditty was writen about my 13 year old son while on a trip to arkansas.luke's song or poem

well i went down to arkansas to catch me some fish
the 30lb striper was at the top of my list
i fished on the top and i fished on the bottom
i fished till the bait was all gone
i fished all day and i never got one
oh the 30lb striper is the king of the fish
the 30lb striper's at the top of my list

well i been out to sea and i caught lot's of mackeral
i been to bass pro and i bought lot's of tackle
i threw all that stuff
and i caught me a wiper
but what i really wanted was a 3olb striper

oh the 30lb striper is the king of the fish

now it's time to go home
and i'm going empty-handed
but i'll be back
cause i just can't stand it.

On this forum I've made some great friends
I will fish these slabfests until my time ends

Lately I've been online for our throwdown typin some smack
My buddy TnT is the only Talquinette givin it back

I've been speck fishin for quite a few years
Finally I got an autographed coolie to cover my beers

I usually go out with a detailed plan
But Huntinslabs takes the trophy cuzz he's the Monroe man

Now as I head out thinkin of Susan's cheesy grits bake
Crappiegirl takes my picture while Jack holds her cane & the cake

Billbob just went by with Abbey at the wheel
Boy he's gonna have a mess untanglin that reel

Here comes Mr green jeans with lights flashin on his G3
Look there's Pontiac65 pullin one in on a Charlie Bee

Now as I sit here with a BnM in hand
I'm longlinin the lake with a Slider, my favorite brand

As the lake gets crowded with bassers & tubers
We head in before Phantom309 runs over some gubers

When I got near the ramp I noticed this crowd
Someone says "he forgot to tie down the boat" out loud

Speckanator took Griffin & won the points race
Next time you think JADA you'll see a familiar face

I approach Flycaster with my fish for the weigh in
All I keep thinkin is someday I'll make Team Geezer & take the win

I'm at my ending with this poem you see

poems poems ,Poems are sometimes good, then poem are sometimes dry, But when you catch crappie they are allways wet

The dogwood and redbud are a sight to behold
The sure sings of Spring have begun to unfold
God's graced our great land so that we would be happy
And has blessed Mississippi with bountiful crappie
So, we jig and we rig and we long line those cranks
From winter's deep haunts 'til they're up on the banks
You know for sure there's a story to be told
Like mine from Grenada that never gets old
So, we pass down tradition to grandson from Poppy
'Bout catchin' a slab, a great big 'ole crappie

Jig's are red and jig's are blue, but the one's on my rod will catch fish too.

Catching a fish is just a bonus

Visions of the clear blue deep, waiting for the first fin to break...
Ive planned, mapped and plotted, ink blotted where the big one got away last...
Like when Gods and titans clash, thunder and lighting strikes as my rod bends in half...
First light through the fog gleaming, a stop and start to my dreaming...
finally on the lake, a splash n take and lines a screaming...
Blood rushes through my veins as I set the sharpened bronze...
In an instant its over, im sobered, another big one got off and gone...

Crappie fishing is but a journey
Not for all but still many
We start out fishing for food on the table
Ending up wishing we were still able
We soon find that the Crappie we seek
Was only a small thing compared to the friends we meet.

This has been on my wall for years. I did not write it.

I don't want a million dollars; don't want to run a trust; I don't want to take a plunge and see the other fellow bust; I don't want to corner foodstuffs 'til the world grows week and gaunt-- but I wouuld like to go a-fishin and have all the time I want.

I dont want a nomination, I don't want to own a state; I don't want to be a boss, I have no platform to dictate; I don't want to run a party , nor have real power to flaunt-- but I would like to go a-fishin and have all the time I want.

For there's something else in life besides the greed to get it all, and ambition's just a siren which will lead you to a fall; for I know a lake of crystal which the speckled beauties haunt -- and I would like to go a-fishin and have all the time I want.

Thank you so much for posting this poem. My Father loved to fish and after he retired he spent a great deal of time fishing. When I was younger I would go with him and then as I got older other things took up my time, He served his country during WW2 was a POW, DAV, received the Purple Heart, Silver and Bronze Star. I don't remember him ever missing a day of work. He was a quiet simple man and this poem could have been the words he lived by. I lost my Dad 3 years ago in March. As I look back and I ponder the words to this poem, it brings a tear to my eyes because I would like to go a fishin with my Dad and have all the time I want. Thank you Again

Some like em white
Some like em black
Matters not to me
When they're caught on my kayak
Anchored over brush
Or casting a crank
Its always a good day
When my line gets a yank

Hickory, cypress, and dock the crappie was bitting around the clock the clock struck two and the crappies jaws were locked.

There once was a crappie named Fishy
The females all though he was dishy
Then down came the bait
The wormy he ate
And the fisherman thought him DeeLishy

Here I sit in my office, staring at the floor, how i love outdoors. As I sit in my chair, the thought of fresh air. I catch myself staring at the light gleaming, I start daydreaming. Walk up to a brushpile , feels like miles, drop my jig, stick a pig! As, I look down the bank, I feel another yank… As my basket starts to get full, I start to drool… I walk down to the next stump,… THUMP…. Did I just feel a wake.., it’s time for a break! Oh now, I am Wishing I was fishing…..

Roses are red
Violets are blue
I know I'm not a poet
And now you know it too.

The sun coming up over the trees
the wind from the south a slight breeze.
My fishing gear in my truck
off to the lake to try my luck.
Rods of all different size
hoping soon to catch a prize.
I go to my favorate place
with inticipation and a smile on my face.
I fish for hours it's a slow day,
not one crappie comes my way.
Just as I think I might give up
my rod bends as a big fish my lure has struck.
I reel and fight the fish in
my face all lit up with a grin.
As I look at my only catch today
I let him go as I say
Thanks for the fight my friend,
go and tell your friends today was not your end.

I told my wife about this contest and that's all it took.
She grabbed her pen and papper in hopes she could provide her husband and son
with a prize winning poem. We enjoy fishing together as it teaches our son self reliance and ingenuity.
Teach a kid to fish and they won't have time to get into trouble.

Walking through the warm waters
Seeking treasures in the stones
I hear such happy laughter
Coming from my husband and son

They're paddleing in their kayaks
As they bring their haul of fish
Grabbing the camera I wait anxiously
They say they caught more than they had wished

Approaching the shore
Smiles upon thier tan faces
I see pride in the eyes of my boys
I snap pics in the water of thier stringer full of crappie
The bonding they shared fills me with joy

Inspired by their excitement and love of the sport
Working together they process their days catch
We later bread and season to prepare the fish for the oil
Our family dines on freash crappie and steak
Father and son smiling all the while

About 9 o’clock I arrive with minnows in hand
The looks I receive say “Great it’s him again”
I fish for hours without a bite,
The whole time I see them smiling at the sight
The wife arrives 9 hours later
Laughing as she sees my tackle box scattered
I look at her and determined who is she to laugh and get that honor
I will catch that CRAPPIE that’s eluded me for hours
With the Ultra lights jigging I finally catch some dinks
At this time I could have used a few cold drinks
I finally say oh well we are out of bait
I start packing up gear but she say’s just wait
In goes her empty jig and I laugh under my breath
Then the bobber goes down and she was put to the test
Up came the biggest Crappie I’ve seen
Defiantly bigger than any Crappie I’ve caught
A Slab it was, looked like it ate a Bass
I guess this time she kicked my ass
The kids were laughing and pointing at me
But to tell the truth there is no sight I would rather see!

Do you think we'd meet here at this tree,
Would I be holdin tight to the wood
While the wind blows the rain up under your hood,
