Got My Fish Back

From Backland Taxidermy in Grenada. Allen Dykes is the owner. I took him the 3.25lb fish that I won the C.C Fruit Jar big fish with last February. I told him to keep the fins and tail as natural as possible. I think he did a great job. Thanks Allen!!!!

Great looking mount!

Great fish and great job.

Good looking mount and I did see the missing top fins but best to go natural. I had a bass mounted back in the mid 90's where his back tail was a lil off only because of the way it was when caught but no big deal. Your crappie has good color to it, good mount. I've been wanting to put a crappie on the wall for a while now and lost a big one few years back right at the boat. I got a guy over on the OK/AR line who done a bass for me year before last and does great work. So far I've got 2 bass, a buck and a cat done, still waiting on that big slab and hope it's a big black one, they sure are pretty.

As for price Nimrod I had an 8LB.13OZ bass mounted for just over $200 a couple Summer's ago and I wanna say crappie wasn't but like $175ish or so, maybe cheaper so not too bad. The guy who did my fish did a really good job too but said deer are what's high these days at nearly $500/mount! Now if I got one that beat my current 10PT I'd prolly mount it but I might cry about it too, lol.

My fish was 300.00. I'd pay that all day to a real artist like Allen is!!!!!

DANG!!! That thing looks like a shark with spots! I'd settle for a crappie that was 3+LB any day. A 4LBER is hugh for a crappie.

Great mount congrats! I'd also like to know why skin over replica or pros an cons but maybe that's another thread. WHEN I catch a 3 pounder I will have to decide pretty quick which way to go.

I chose to mount the fish I caught. A replica is just that, a replica. They are to perfect and all look the same. They look like a replica, especially if the person that does it isn't as talented as Allen is. It takes an artist to paint a crappie correctly. Lots of guys can mount one, but VERY FEW, can paint one right. Crappie have lots of green in them. Most guys just paint em black and white. Look at most of the mounts posted, they are black and white. That's NOT how a white crappie looks!!!!!!!! There can be more black on some fish depending on the lake it was caught in, but most have a greenish color down the back. I've seen some nice mounts that were ruined by the paint. Some look like they've got black polka dots on em.
