HB sideimaging question
Im hoping someone else has had this problem and can help me out. Just installed 1198 combo, first time out the left side of my side imaging screen has a line just to the left of the centerline and the whole left side is lighter in color than the right. I thought the mtr might have been in the way but I trimmed it up and it didn't make any difference.

I have one but I'm not sure how to post it.

I've got the same problem. I don't know what's causing it other than maybe turbulence off the strakes on the bottom of the boat.
-
Post a picture of the transducer installation both in fairly close and backed out some. Just off hand I'd guess your transducer is higher on the right than the left.
-
Transducer is hitting motor or bottom of boat, and must be mounted to right side. SI sometimes shoots more than 180 degrees and hits bottom of boat ,if you look at many pic on here you will see many that are like that,to check if motor just raise big motor. As for one side darker than other side ,probably right side is going down toward deeper water or left side is shallower picking up more signals
-
Also meant to say one side could have a softer bottom
-
Mine was doing the same. I thought it was picking up the intake screen for the livewell. One day while scanning I bumped the throttle up increasing speed about 1- 1.5 mph it cleared mine up.

Thanks for all the great input, I thought about the mtr first so my second trip out I trimmed the mtr up but it did change anything. I also varied my speed but made very little change also now I am gonna remount the transducer in between two other ribs and see what happens.

Attachment 120274 Here is one pic of the transducer

With the transducer way out to the side like that it won't easily see around the motor or the hull.

Had sort of the same problem. The boat was leaning to starboard because of my weight and the load. Once I shifted the load it fixed it.

Temporary mount the Xducer to a broom stick and stick it down in the water...
If the line goes away, something on your boat is blocking the left signal...
Also try different attitudes of the Xducer...clockwise/ counter clockwise...
1 side dark sometimes indicates the Xducer is not sitting parallel with the water (looking at the xducer from the rear) causing the SI beam on that "dark side SI " to "shoot" up into the water column on that darker side...

Like Rickie said put it on stick and it should go away. Looks to me like xducer is not straight and as said earlier ,looks like signal is hitting left side of boat, if turn away from left side i think may go away.

HB sideimaging question
Rickie knows his stuff, and has offered some great advice!!

I bet the white line is motor exhaust trim the motor up and u will probably see a change in the size of the white line
-
Seems to me the fuzz by the centerline is motor exhaust which about every sidescan sees. And the left side is brighter because it is the shoreline side with a rising bank which will give a stronger return while the right side is the deeper side with a dropping bottom which will give a weaker return. Just play with your contrast and sensitivity and looks like you could get a pretty good picture there.
