Ryan ain't right and his brother is even worse
While studying at Mississippi State we did a study of the fish that go threw the tube and we found that few do go threw but not as many as was expected, Ans their was a very high mortality rate on the ones that did go threw
Thats not what eagle 1 says and he watched them go through the gate house at Enid and Grenada for a good number of years.....talk to him and let him tell you about his study lol
I would be very interested in seeing his report and compare the two im pretty sure i could find the paper work its around this house some place
His report is in his head...he worked for the COE and was in the gatehouse on a daily basis and could see the fish......but anyway .....what it is .......is what it is lol
your right G folks can argue this forever it is what it is some believe alot go threw and other not so much
Had dinner with Dylan Williams, guy who does a lot of tagging and biology work on Enid and Sardis. I asked what he thought of the new regs. He said the regs are the best thing to happen and hopes the rest of lakes follow suit. They are over pressured, the fish can't keep up. We lose 20% of fish out of spillway, 15% to predation and natural death, and 45% to fishing. Just something to think about
spring/summer very little . extreme cold , count on it . have seen them dipped up with a net .
wish the state would stock the hybred crappie heavy in the c.o.e. lakes . there may not be enough food supply though .thats why they have biologist . jmo .
Yep! I was fishing Butla spillway 2 yrs ago when the stripes was runnin and while I was there a crappie a little over 2 lbs floated up right where I was standing and it was still alive.Ain't nobody in their right mind gonna put back a crappie that size and in the state it was in< I would say it had not swam up the river, It was barely flopping but gills were still working. I would say it came through the hole and got banged up!I was fishing a eddy just where it starts to get wider and the current was going back toward the dam.Just my opinion, no scientific fact though!
yep--they surely do go down the pipe.
Dylan explained his results a little better while fishing yesterday. Enid, due to the setup of the lake, loses the highest # of fish. He had 8 tagged fish that were released at the midpoint of the lake, and within 2 to 3 weeks, the fish were out the spillway. The fish are sucked out in cold weather, when they sit near the bottom and are very sluggish. When they are drawing water after a heavy rain, the little bit of current is too much for the crappie and drags him to the dam. As they near the dam, their bodies can't fight the strengthening current and out they go. He said on a "perfect storm" year, with high water and cold temps, as much as 50% of the fish could go out the dam at Enid. He said the other lakes weren't as bad, probably only losing 5-15% on average, with worst case being +/- 30%
I caught a fish Friday in the lower that had his whole back skinned and banged up. I know he was pulled through the gates.

The only time I fished the lower lake this year I caught this one that had a big spot taken off his side from coming through the hole.

Same here. The couple of big ones I've caught on the lower looked a bit rough.

I have caught a bunch of fish on lower Sardis with scrapes and cuts. Never really seen this within the reservoirs.
