Has to be Torch's boat.

I didn't know that tin boats had hook built into their design for stability.

Torch's boat. Builder said there was too much hook and cant see how torch was even driving it. Gonna get it fixed and a few minor things concerning the live/bait wells.
Lots of builders use a bit of a hook to tame the front end of the boat. Keeps em from porpoising so bad, and beating your spine through your skull on a Mod V boat. :)

If you're looking for speed without porpoising, you can beat about 1/8" hook into the back of the boat to cure it. I haven't done it myself, but I know a few Bayou Meto boat racers who have.
What is hook??? Never heard that term all my days running boats!:dono
From what I have been told it is the curvature in the back end of the boat that helps it with speed and ride. Too much hook and the boat will ride too much in the water when trying to tilt up the motor and get the boat running on as little of the bottom in the water. I know that you have power trimed a boat and the boat rides further out of the water and less of the boat is actually in the water at top speed. That is the best I can say.
My best description is, at a point from transom to some where around mid point of bottom you can have a upward curve in the bottom from left to right. From what I have read lately some flat bottom boats are built with a small amount of hook to control proposing. To much hook can make a boat plow bow down real bad. And a bear to drive under full throttle. I ruined a boat back in the 70's. I had a early fiberglss Kingfisher bathtub bass boat. Back in those days they just had a thin bottom and even thinner sides. I had the boat on a trailer that the runners didn't come all the way to the transom. Had a old V4 60 HP Rude motor on it and strap across the transom from side to side. Had to go to sea for 11 months. When I took it out again I barley could drve it it would plow so bad. After months of trying to figure it out a guy at boat yard told me what to check. That glass had taken a set which caused a hook right in front of the transom which acted like trim tab tilted way down thus lifting transom but forcing bow down in water. No trim and tilt in those days. When I raised it a notch or 2 then it would porpoise so bad you couldn't drive it. Hope this makes some kinda sense.
If Im pictureing it right thats gotta be a job to fix.
A hook is basically a slight dent in the hull in front of the transom. It works similar to trim tabs.

Whats involved in taking it out BRM? Sounds like some cuttin an welding has to be done.
Ok...I see what yall talking about! My F&F 1660 is a flatbottom and it has that small dent on back of boat. I was wondering what was up with that. Thanks for the info yall!!
May be as simple as removing the floor above the hook and hammering it out a little. Not sure the issue tho. If the hook is excessive, it may need the transom removed and re welded, but it depends on what's actually wrong with it.
BTW, a hook can be an accidental dent in the hull, and can be anywhere near the rear of the boat causing serious handling issues. It can also be caused by a weld on the transom being lower or bigger on one side causing the boat to pull or drag to that side, as well as drag the bow down to that side causing the issue. It just depends on where the hook is, and what caused it.

Thanks BRM, I would want a new hull. You shouldnt have to cut and weld on a new boat.
Never heard of this lol.
I found this info on hook and rocker. 2 different conditions that effect boat performance.Hull Defects - fastelectrics.net
