Does anyone have any screen shots of bream beds? I am trying to decide between a 998 or a HDS8. I would like to see some from both brands, if you have them please post them up, Thanks!!

yes,i see what your saying, but dont give up maybe someone with a lowrance unit will post some pictures that might be more to your likes
SYG you dont need anymore help catchin Gills, You do fine just like you are,.What are try to make them extinct
Lol, no I don't want them extinct. I will be moving back to SC in about a year when I get out of the Navy and they are a little tougher to find in that stained water. I fish the clear spring fed waters in FL to catch them now. All you need is a good pair of polarized glasses, no side imaging. I am getting back from deployment in June and have to get a new boat and all new electronics, I want to go ahead and get the good stuff so I wouldn't wished I had later. I am leaning forward hummingbird because of the dual beam sonar they have right now, I have not seen anywhere on lowrance site that hey have a dual beam sonar. I want the narrow cone to stay on top of brush in deeper water, looks like it may hard with a Lowrance. If I am wrong someone please correct me
Southern Young Gun, Lowrance does have a dual beam transducer. They have 83/200 and 50/200 depending on the unit you want. An HST-WSBL is a 200 hz, transducer....but on a HDS depthfinder it is a 83/200. The unit is able to pick up the two frequencys. If you go to the Lowrance website and look under transducers you will see many dual beam transducers. I have a HDS 7 Gen 2 with the dual beam transducers and use it on 83/200 split screen....Thanks for your service in the military you guys are my heros......... Jim
I stated it above. Without a dual beam it's hard to stay directly above brush. If you only have the normal cone the brush can be to the left or right of the boat and it's still registering on the screen. With the narrow radar cone available it helps in directly pinpointing the brush so you can be sure you are not off to the left or right of it......
I have been using hummingbird dual beam transducers since they came out and it makes a diff. If you put it in split screen mode with the 60degree cone on one side and the 20degree cone on the other you can tell what I mean. The 60degree come will always register the brush in deeper water it you are close to it, the 20degree cone will only register it if you directly over it.........If you don't use this feature on your Lowrance good for you, I don't like guessing though. They make it for the very reason I am trying to explain to you,.........when I went on the Lowrance site I couldn't find the info anywhere, so I was just asking if they had it. I am a humminbird user just thinking of crossing over to Lowrance.
I don't get it either Justin, I use an old Lowrance X-75 up front and have no trouble bumping the stakes. Don't understand why in the world he thinks with the newer Lowrance stuff you couldn't stay on a bed or brush in deep water.
Once you use downscan you won't use your 2d that much. I run 2 HDS 10's with side/down on both ends and have no trouble finding anything! I have been in many boats and I will stick with my Lowrance's any day.
I have a eagle 480 up front and do not have a problem staying on brush, but I always throw a marker ,then line the top of brush with marker and bank ,also can tell which side brush is on because I tilt the xducer forward a little and turn TM to each side which will tell where brush is, but I sure the narrow cone could help, only problem when you come off brush if xducer is not tilted a little then you will not know which side the brush is on unless you have already line bouy with bank, all I am saying is each has it place but for DI have not been convince that it is better than 2D on front,I have a 798 but so far up front I would go with 2D while JIGGING
The X-75 is a 20 degree cone, I understand exactly the need for it. I don't understand why you don't think the Lowrance has one. No need to be rude, I didn't mean to come across that way earlier, sorry if I did. I don't understand why anyone would use 60 on the bow really, but that's just me and the way I fish.
I thought you were being rude, thats why I sounded like I did as well. No hard feelings, i apologize as well. I wasnt sure if Lowrance had one thats why i said at the end of my post "please correct me if I am wrong", the Lowrance website isnt that detailed IMO and doesnt give good detailed descriptions of their transducres if you are looking at a depthfinder. For instance, If you go to the HDS10 page they dont list anything about having a dual beam transducer. I am using an Ipad in El-salvador right now and maybe the site for mobile Ipads are different than a desktop site. Now if you went to the Humminbird website they have the dual beam transducer listed on the same page as the units so there is no misunderstanding. I want to get a Lowrance but I couldnt find anywhere on the site that said there was a dual beam transducer available.
Please read this Lowrance HDS-10 Gen2 | Fishfinder GPS Chartplotter - LOWRANCE | Marine Electronics, on the right side it describes the Gen-2 options.
Is this OK catfan!
Nice bedding pics. Don't forget SYG I'm coming over when you get back for some gillies.
I remember Crappiegirl, we will go. You will have to get amnesia once we leave though, i cant be giving away my honey holes, lol. I have agreed to take a gentleman from SC that comes into my dads office ocassionally. He is pretty high up in his company and I may be able to get a job if I hook him up with a day of a couple hundred pan size bream........thats the plan anyway, lol. I get out of the Navy and a year and need a good one......
