Dang Mike did it sink?????????
No got out there TM worked perfect outboard started perfect but still ran for 5 mins then stalled out. i think it is a fuel issue. has fuel leaking out of carb and/or fuel cock its like it is flooding out or starving for fuel. Anyone have any ideas??? It will start back up but then die quickly maybe overheating but dont think so. The only thing that didnt work at all was the depth finder which powers up but transduce line is partially cut after inspection. anyone know where i can get a HB wide one hundred transducer?
Crap forgot report... Fished Burnt Mills with no luck. Talked to about 5 people at the ramp and all said only a couple. Water temps was still mostly under 50 according to them. Didnt have outboard so stayed close to the ramp and hit some tree tops and trolled mostly. I wasnt able to get to the spots where Tap and I fished a few years back but I need to learn the lake more but without depth finder couldnt really work the bottom properly. All and all a good day even without fish especially for during the week lol...
I pulled out the carb and cleaned all I could but I dont think it has a fuel pump. it is a 1999 3.5 nissan 2 stroke forward only motor. i have never seen these before. Put everyhting back together and again starts fine but stalls but runs better a full choke but still stalls.. opened the tank vent thought it wasnt getting good fuel flow and it now leaks fuel bad so tighted it back down still leaks a little but carb is full of fuel.. Any ideas?????
If fuel is running out carb, the float in carb is stuck open or bent so it cant maintain proper level. ( Float is not shutting of fuel at proper level). Btw, tank vent is supposed to be open when you run motor
Tank vent is open but only about a 1/4 of the way if i open it any more than that it leaks. Anyone know a good place to get parts?
All the float does is actuate the needle valve. either the float isnt set right or the needle valve isnt dropping down. Is the a mechanical linkage that connects the float assy to the NV ? Or does it fall down via gravity when the float drops. I'll betcha thats your problem. If its gravity that causes the NV to drop, pull the NV screw, pull out the brass seat and ever so slightly ream the NV seat hole with a phillips screw driver. A burr or ethanol bead can get in it and hang it up.
also it shoulnt be a heat problem, it wont run long enough to heat up.
it is gravity with a float. the float pushs up a forked lever but I dont see that the lever is connected to anything at all it just moves completely freely so maybe the needle valve is stuck?
Needle valve may have been removed by previous owner.. You would be surprized at things I found on last motor I bought, that I found installed wrong, and even removed!
ok so where would be a good local place to get a needle valve or maybe a carb repair kit?
pull the assy out first. My gravity NV would stick simply by pulling out the brass seat, with NV in, and flipping the seat upside down. Thats how I discovered it. I would have to pluck it for the NV to fall out the seat. If thats not it, adjust the flange the float is attached to. (shorten the throw) I have no idea who sells nissan parts. perhaps BPS?
All good info. I just want to toss out a remote possibility. I did have a motor that did the same thing, it cut off after about 3-5 min running (it never leaked gas out carb). I pulled my hair out trying to find the issue and it was the old steel fuel tank I was using. When I opened the tank (removed the cap) motor ran great. I had taken the carb apart 4 times.
Got to work on the boat again today pulled the carb completely apart and the needle was lose from float and the jet was clogged fixed that and ran it for 15 in the bucket and she ran perfect we will see how she does in the water
glad you got it Mike!
OK here is the final tally! Costs total $325
I got out and ran the project boat for about 30 minutes with no problems ran great. It was a little rough at idle but no other issues. Anyone know how to smooth it out? Maybe running a little too rich?
Operational Tests:
Boat: Floats no leaks
Motor: Runs perfect after fixing carb needle valve loose from float and jet clogged and new spark plug
Trolling motor: works perfect only had to redo connections on all wiring
Trailer: Just figured out yesterday that it is a tilt trailer which is a big plus. Lights work just needed bulbs
Depth finder: Works just needs a transducer cable was cut, if anyone knows where I can a Hummingbird Wide One Hundred transducer or another DF cheap let me know
Cover: Fitted boat cover is perfect just needed a couple new snaps and a little sewing
All and all I think I got a great deal considering everything pretty much works, now I just need to make it a suffolk lake fishing machine.
Sounds like you got the deal of a lifetime.
If you ever come to richmond or Deltaville, I have brand new, in box (never opened) DF. I recently bought it at good price because I figgured someone would want a deal. Its 1/3 retail . Look in classified posts at the top of Va forums.
Mix you a good dose of SeaFoam into your gas, run the stew out of it. Should have a adjustment screw on side of carb and it would have a spring around it. One you have run it awhile and it's warm, try adjusting that screw in and out real slow and she should smooth out. On your cable you should be able to splice the cables back together and work fine. Seal with liquid electrical tape then wrap with tape. You don't have anything to lose.
Compression?
No i dont think it is the compression because she runs perfect at full speed. i have an STP version of the Sea Foam will try that and the screw adjustment.
