I'll be heading dwn in a week or so and want to know if I need to bring minnows with me. I can get them fairly cheap here but if not to high there I will just buy them there.

Wow. Nobody.
How about any prices anywhere close.
Just give them a call Moors Resort and Marina on Kentucky Lake i'd think they'd give you the price over the phone. I went to Ky Lake last week and took my own minnows just because i'd heard most bait shops had shinners.......that an i'm old and set in my ways. We bought ours at J & L Market on Barren River Lake for $11.50 a pound.
[QUOTE=crappiemax;2245759]Personally, I wouldn't think it would be worth the hassle. How much can you really save, $2?[
Thanks. I can save $20 to $25 by bringing minnows from here.
Just curious, where do you get your minnows here?
Nothing will likely take effect this year but there is something in the works that you guys need to keep in mind and check for next year:
Quote:
The Kentucky Department of Fish
and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR) is
gathering public input on a regulation to
restrict the movement of all live baitfish
from one body of water to another.
Yeah, they're trying to get a handle on the invasives.
Ive got my minnows from Moores in the past but was thinking they was high. I can bring them from southern ohio fairly cheap.
I bought some down the road while I was home and I'm sure they were cheaper that Moore's. I gave like $5.20 for 3 doz. mediums.
Before buying the minnows over here at Barren, we asked a fella at the Dept of Fish and Wildlife if we would be breaking any laws and he said no. I'll need to ask him again about this. Not sure how they would regulate this as I know for a fact that the minnows we bought were trucked in from Rochester, ky.
I don't believe it is about minners according to their agenda. If i am reading it right, its about catching live bait from one lake and then going to a different lake. The update for bait fish is at the bottom of the document page.

I get mine at fast Eddies in Fairdealing.
I usually buy mine at Bass & Gas. The have ethanol free gas too.
I'm all about saving money these days.....but if you look at what you are spending as a whole for the trip why sweat over a few bucks on minnows???? why not help out the local bait shops??? I'm sure you can google bait shops in that area and find that prices vary everywhere....just my 2 bits.....wish you a great fishing trip!
Well put. Thats what I was trying to point out and you're only going to save $20 for a whole week.
I get my bait at either Moors or Ken's Bait (I think that's the name) besides that Moor's has ice cream (a staple of life) and Ken's is like a fisherman's toy store. That guy has everything. One thing I like about Moor's is they have the nicest kids working there. If it weren't for the tourist what else would they do.....get in trouble. I do like to support local businesses.
Points well taken. I am planning on making several trips dwn in the next couple months.
I think your right with the hassle of transporting that many minnows and keeping them all alive it wont be worth it.
Thanks for all the info. I cant wait to get there and get on the water.
Good Luck to All
I think I paid $1.09/ dozen (Small) last Thursday at Bass n Gass...
She said she was going to try at get Matt to set a price per pound soon...
They also had Rosie Reds but I don't remember how much she said they were...(less than $2 dozen tho I'm sure)..
Rickie
Last Fall,Moors was aboout$1.60 per doz for mediums. They were very generous when scooping out (not counting, probably got 3 doz for each paid doz) minnows were frisky and kept well!
Free gas? I think I will have to drive a couple more miles next time. 5 dozen minnows and 16 gallons of free premium would be worth the drive.
Thanks for the heads up Whiskers. :biggrin
