Line color question

Ok I know everyone just wants to see another post about fishing line (sorry). But I need some advice from some casting guys. I Plan on buying a spool of 4 pound Nanofil line. It comes in clear, green, and chart. I am getting this line for casting distance and low stretch for better sensitivity. I have read where you need chart. line to see the line ticks when reeling a jig back in but has anyone seen where the bright line has spooked fish? I don't think it would be as much an issue as tightlining. I will be using the Nanofil with a Pflueger Purist rod which is IM8 graphite. I am hoping to feel the fish take a dump a hundred yards away. Opinions on the Nanofil line and color is needed and appreciated. Is 4 pound too lite with a low stretch line? Thanks.CF

I use chartreuse line as does fishdoc. Some time ago I read in a crappie book or saw in a crappie video where they were saying that it can actually help in that the crappie might see the line first which gets their attention and makes it easier for them to see the jig that is coming along. Every single one of the 3,705 crappie I caught last year were caught with chartreuse line. (I use Sufix Elite Hi-vis yellow which I call chartreuse)

I use Vicious Hi-Vis & Sufix Elite Hi-Vis. I don't think the color bothers the fish at all. Tie a real good knot with the nano-fil.

I also have a couple of jigging poles(fly rods #6 wt) with Nano-Fil 8 lb test. I use a Shimano Symetre 750 reel on the fly rods. You can feel them breathing on it. I plan on using a spool of Nano-Fil Chartreuse casting this year.

Let me know how your set up works.

I've used so many different colors of line, I doubt fluorescent pink & purple polka dotted line would make a difference to the fish.

In the past 15-20yrs I've gone from Stren Gold, to several different brands & shades of hi-vis green, to what I'm using now .... Vicious hi-vis (which I see as chartreuse) & Mr Crappie Super hi-vis (which I see as fluorescent yellow). All of my casting outfits have 4# test mono .... but, I'm fixin to change all but the UL's, over to 6# test Vicious hi-vis.

Hey Ed I use the high vis yellow line in 6 pound test. The main reason I use high vis is the way I work my jig. I myself never reel the jig to feel for a tick. I work the jig on a hop and drop method. I feel this method will draw a reaction strike better than a slow retrive. As far as color go's I have used them all. My only problem is my eye's are not what they used to be:yikes Tight Lines JIM.B

There is a $10 rebate on the nanofil line till the end of the month, just got to spend over $25 and a spool of 300yds is $38.50!!! I love the line. No memory, no stretch and I can see it in the water. I use the 10 lb test and it is so thin it is hard to tye a knot. I switched from clear line and see no difference in the fishing.

Man don't pay that kind of money on line, order a spool of vicious hi vis 4 or 6 like 3000 yds for $10 from monk. Heck when I bought mine I found it at walmart on a 150 yd spool, that was before I found c.com I called the manufacturer and ordered a 1/4 lb spool of 4,6,8,&10 4 for casting, 6 for mainline tight lines (4 on leader) 8 for bottom bouncers and slip bobber setups and 10 for canepoles.

Btw that's close to 10,000 yards for what you would pay for 300yds of the nanofil

What Perc said. I bought the vicious @ Wally World, cheap, works great. I never fish with less than 6lb

Like Tapout says, I use Sufix elite, chartruese. great for castin an I also use it for titelinin an flatlinin. I tried the no stretch braids an they seem to take all the fight out of a crappie. I've used the yellow on SML where the water is so clear ya can see ya jig 10 ft down an they still hit it. and I'm sure I "see" more strikes than I did with clearer lines. Barnacle Bill turned me on to the yellow several yrs ago, these ol eyes thank him!

I use flow number 4 on all my reels and as Tap said over 5000 crappie didn't mind the color last year.i sometimes pull and drop bait and watch line but when the bite is slow I have did better with as slow as I could reel and can see the thump but this color line is not for felling fish but seeing fish hit which is going to be the case much of the time. Also forget the 100 yd a 20 to 30 yd cast is more than enough, better fell and hook up, I use mr crappie 4 but do not like mr crappie 6 ,it curls too much

I used to use clear mono exclusively, until last fall. After fishing side-by-side with hi-vis users, and watching them catch 2 to my 1, I switched. I think I have caught more fish since switching. I use Stren Hi-Vis gold in 4 lb test for casting. Mainly because it was cheap, and I couldn't find the Viscous when I was looking. I am about ready to get a spool of Hi-Vis Green Viscous from Monk's.

I got to tell ya CF. For years I used the green or clear blue lines when I did just about all casting for white perch. Then when I started doing more trolling, I went to yellow because it was easier to see the lines to adjust rods, tell if a jig I was pulling was fouled or to thread a fish between a bunch of lines. I haven't seen any difference in the fish catching ability of the clearer lines. I prefer the easier to see stuff. 6lb test. That'll catch anything you hook around where we live if you have a good soft rod and a smooth drag. Plus, it cast's like a dream. I don't know that you really gain an advantage by going down to 4. Just my two cents.

I'm still using it too and see no reason to change.

Lots of folks buy a 50 or 100 or 200 fishing pole, and they are real nice, you do not want to put inexpensive line on a nice reel and pole. You can flick a 1/16 oz jig 30 yards with the nano line "no memory" flat straight no resistance. If you whip a 1/4 oz jig it will fly across the lake and hit someone in the head or spool your reel! If you are under 30 go ahead and zing jigs out there all day, but if you are older than 60 you may want to just flick the jig out there cus yer shoulders cannot take much more. THEY ALL catch fish. Some just makes it easier.

It makes no difference to the experinced angler, he does not need to see or feel the bite he can hear it.

I use Visious Hi-Vis, works good for me.

Agree as well with the water color of most places around here the line color should not spook the fish. you will lose more fish from not being able to see the bite than you will spook them. I have titghtlined with even the bright orange brand side by side with fluorocarbon line that is clear locally and have not seen a difference. The key again is to be able to see the subtle bites.

viscious high vis has my vote!!

I like P-line premium 6 lb hi vis. I can see it and it is slick and strong.
