So what's better drift socks or chains, yall people are confusing.
both have their situation for being used
I hang a chain in my drift sock.
Socks for moderate wind, chains for heavy, you shouldn't be fishing weather. Chains and socks if ya already paid your money for the tournament so you might as well fish wind.
Big C you make my head hurt....get chains that way i can wrap you up in them and toss u over board

Dont think there is no BETTER just a preference.
Just trying to ask a question sorry.Maybe i should keep up with the board better. Thanks WB and DD.For the rest of yall go drink or shot something Dang.
Was just joking Big C....rotflI think each has its place, we prefer the socks but as DD and WB stated sometimes the wind will make us put out the chains but even if we use chains out the back we still put those two small socks off the front to keep the bounce out of the front of the boat. If ya can get slow enuf with the socks I like them better but sometimes they just wont slow ya down enuf.
Oh and BTW even if we arent using the chains they are stowed in the front of Feeshs boat to add weight to it to take away bounce. When we fish in my boat, it has a large front livewell. I pump it full of water to add weight to the front of the boat. We have had the front of my boat setting so low in the water that we have had other boats wakes come right over the bow and wet the front deck before. Just an opinion, everyone had their own way of doing it.
Thank Dd, I think you and idjit. Pffft.

GDG I got a question for you, I understand how socks can help hold the bow down and how it could really help with the Vee hull but what do you think it would do for a flat bottom Alum boat?
One thing to ponder is if you're fishing in stumps. That sick will get ripped to stress on stumps whereas a chain will still let you fish slow
Luv you too WB lol
:popcorn
I think they would still work on tin boat as well, seems to me that when the front of the boat tries to come up no matter the kind of boat the socks will slow it down on the way up.
ok so i gots me an excell with pods or knee steps on the back, with 2batteries up under the deck and a gas tank then add 2 non feesh catchin sum beeches!! my a…z ends nearly up out the water so riddle me this, whats the best way to keep the rear from tryin to go over the front im already runnin 2-54" socks and the fronts as low as it gets?
Thanks guys, I'm still from the old school. I have only used socks and interested in the chains.

Has anyone ever used one sock off the Bow Eye , so it will be under the boat? Im thinkin bout this to slow when runnin the big motor pullin cranks.
Put you trolling motor down and turn it sideways, works on my cousins rig.
My opinion, for whatever it's worth. Socks are way better in open water. Smoother drift and they don't tear up folks brush piles and stakes, like chains can. Chains work good if you are in an area that is full of stumps ie: East end of Sardis and most of Grenada, where your socks will get snagged and possibly torn.
I'm not sure I'd hang a sock off the now eye. Too muh potential for disaster if it came loose or if you happened to snag a stump. I just see that as a bad idea. To slow you down, try dragging a bucket or two or as mentioned dropping the TM. Trimming up a few degrees will also slow you down but not so far it gives you trouble with cooling the motor.
On the boat with pods, sounds like moving the batteries back is in order.

X3. Thing is, sometimes, even with 4 socks, it's still to fast. What would you suggest when this happens? Don't say go home!!! Lol

I just add my pops to the front with me :) he's 6'5" 350lb. That will do it everytime. :)
Guess I need a bigger fishin partner.... Cause I can't afford the boat!
I was wishing for wind Sunday. Had two guys from Mo. with me and I was the small one! No bounce on the front of my boat that day! LOL!!!
Watch out for the Federal GW?
