Rod Limits--Creel Limits

We've all expressed our opinions one way or another but, here's another rant... I didn't grow up crappie fishing, matter of fact I nevere crappie fished til '98, sure I caught em every now and then Bass fishing... Don't think I totally dedicated myself to it til '02.. At that time I was fishing Sardis a lil and Enid even less for Crappie... It was a struggle to say the least.. Didn't take long to figure out a good GPS and a boat that I could fish in the wind would help... I started fishing in late March and usually quit in June.. Always pole fished, be it single jig or a cork and minnow.. Cork and minnow being mid-may til end of June... I didn't care how you caught em, it was all about having fun.. My point being, the limit was 30 10" fish and we abided by it.. Had it been 15 10" we would've abided.. I haven't trolled Long but I do enjoy it...... As my season of fishing grows so do my ways of catching them... I realize there are arguments against trollers from pole fishermen and vice versa but a limit is a limit.. From what I understand the State of Mississippi just repealed a law for primitive weapons... Isn't that like saying it doesn't matter what method you use, just harvest your quota? If you can use 5 shots to harvest one quota, why can't you use 5 rods... A LIMIT IS a LIMIT regardless how you, me or any of us get one.. Why does my handicapped friend, who fishes off the side of the boat, have to be told he can only use 3 poles... If a man only wants to spend 3hrs fishing for a limit vs 4 because he has 10 poles vs 2.., who cares.. Enjoy the Freedom to fish when you want but be careful what you keep... Sounds a lot like Working these day.. Government wants most of it..

A three pole limit hurts a person that goes fishing alone more than anything. If two people are fishing using their 3 poles each they are not going to quit fishing with 6 poles if one person fills their limit. No they are going to use all 6 poles to fill the next limit. The rule hurts single and handicapped more than anybody.

I agree Kevin really don't make any sense.I believe their thinking is less poles fewer limits.It may be the case sometimes but not all the time.

Kevin, if its BigH you are referring to about being handicapped, I to am overweight and I am offended. Even though we are large we still have feelings.

Just speaking about sardis seems like there trying to protect the resources. By lowering the limit and lowering the pole limit. They did give the angler an advantage on the 11" rule. Look at it this way a guy with 3 poles will get his limit 3 times faster than a guy with 1 pole. So they still give you options on how to fish.

well i think wannabe is ugly just my two cents

I just don't see the deal about three or more poles unless all you are trying to do is catch more fish faster...all i ever do is single pole fish and have never pulled, pushed or spider rigged in my life....the reason i fish is for the enjoyment of fishing and catch a decent meal. All these people that don't single pole miss the best feeling there is when that crappie tries to knock the pole out of your hand when they hit it. The way i see it is that if a person can't catch a fish with one pole i guess they have to use two or more.

I've fished all ways, I will single pole, pull cranks, spider rig, whatever it takes to catch em. Either way, it still beats a day sitting behind the desk or at the house doing laundry... I agree, 15 fish is 15 fish, I would feel like I was a better fisherman if every one of em hit my rod in my hand, but that just isn't the case for me 90% of the time. People that can limit out every time just know their stuff a little better. I know I aint in danger of damaging the population! But I agree with ya blue, the option is there to single pole, but if you can afford 10 rods and bait and want the hassle of running them, go ahead. But I'll hush now and use my three poles and catch under the limit, just for good measure.

The sad but simple fact is that Wb will continue to lobby and write letters until the limit is changed to a 1 fish limit. He is the square wheel on this fine riding Cadillac. I say we change it.

Yeah, and if your still decided on if'n he's purdy or not, I guess it depends on what you compare him to. If'n it's the north end of a south bound billy goat....the goat wins!!!!!

I think the only reason they are only picking on Sardis, is it is the closest Lake to our Northern brethren and they are trying to stop yall from depleting the Lake! What say yall!

I just don't see the deal about fishing with one pole unless all you are trying to do is take a lot longer to pattern open water fish...all I ever do is spider rig and tightline and rarely single pole for crappie... the reason i fish is for the enjoyment of fishing and catch a decent meal. all these people that don't spider rig miss the best feeling there is when five crappie try to pull five rods to the bottom of the lake all at one time. The way i see it is that if a person can't fish with more than one pole i guess they can't manage using two or more at once.

i am a single pole fishing fool but I have found in these tourneys is that you can compete a few months out of the year but if you want to compete in them the rest of the year you need to have spider rigging in your arsenal including long lining, pulling cranks, all of it. I will always be a one pole fisherman but I spider rigged last weekend and really enjoyed it so to each his own have fun and go feeshing :biggrin

Wonder if a guy was to build a rig around his boat and hang 20 yoyo's on it would that be illegal? If its legal there you go trollers instead of 3 you got 20.

I'm not gonna rant so here's my nice version.They (MDWFP) are trying their best to protect our(the state of MS.) resource's but walking that fine line of trying please everyone.The feeling from single poler's is troller's have way higher odd's of putting more fish in the boat day in and day out.The troller's feel the single poler's hammer the fish to hard durning the spawn.The boat limit in my thinking is aimed at the pontoon boat's that you see that may just have 2 people fishing but have 6 or 7 other people on the boat to allow for more poles and more limits.I don't trust our Goverment 100% on protecting our resource's because of the $$$ involved look at the primitive wepon deal may not pass because the firearm dealers are crying about how much money they will lose if pw season is changed or done away with.I lose 2 week's of rut deer hunting cause I can't afford to buy a new gun just to hunt a few day's but the dealers have more pull than the outdoor's man.

GD my point is this... You can put 5 bullets in a Browning BAR.. Yet you can only harvest one deer... You can only harvest 15 fish... Why be limited as to how you do it.. I'm a pole fisherman at heart but when it comes to July and August I would rather be under an Umbrella or canopy with as many bullets(rods) as I can handle to get my quota... I had several instances last year when pole fishing where a boat full of poles Spider rigged by me and not one caught a fish.. They couldn't afford to get close enough for fear of hangin up to catch the fish I was on.. In the same breath I'm not gonna try and compete with them with one pole in open water school fishing as they do now and the summer time.. I'm not a military man at all but, you always hear 'adapt and overcome'... So I did.. I enjoy my spider rigging, enjoy my pole fishing and enjoy pulling cranks... I just enjoy fishing regardless how I do it and when everyone else starts enjoying their time on the water and stops worrying bout some else's method of fishing we will all be better off, then we will all be on the same page... Protecting our resources for future generations.. The CREEL limit is what the MDWFP can do to protect those resources.. How many poles you use should not matter to them... Have fun and enjoy what you're doing out there... It beats working

I thought they limited the number of poles so it would be easier for you to count, I know most of y'all have missing toes,and shot off some of your fingers, so counting would be a problem over 3

I gusses the CORP is the devil in this deal.Last yr. was terrible with water condition's like they were the trollers had the fish hemmed up and single pole'rs all had to fish the same few spot's.I'd love to see Grenada between 210ft-215ft by the end of this month thru April then the troller's and most single pole would not be a problem cause they could'nt or would'nt fish the places I fish.When the water's rite I get up in the thicket's where most folk's won't go cause of the snakes and the difficulty fishing these spot's.

Man that would be awesome, got a place I havent fished but once in the last 10 years that is unbelievable when it has water. Come on rain!!!!

You aint kidding I would hate it for the farmers but I wish it would rain enuff to make them shut off the spillway.I fished all of 2 times last spring and was not with my regular fishing partner and after we fished what ditch's that had water and all the people my friend ask where I wanted to try and I pointed to the bank's and told him all my spot's were high and dry.Somebody need's to throw a stopper in the spillway look's like they would have to turn it off talked to some friend's that say the delta is bad wet and corn planting time is here.I firmly belive that the CORP need's to reevauluate the rule curve they can predict weather better these day's and the lake don't hold as much water to reach the curve like it use to because of silting in but in their mind they are more powerful than GOD and their way is the only way bunch of ijit's.

Without trying to start an argument, the COE announced at the meeting at Enid, that they were working with two universities to re-evaluate and possibly change the Rule Curve. Yikkes can probably shed more light on this.

I hope they do predicting weather pattern's has come a long way since the big flood.
