CRAPPIE TOURNAMENT TO BENEFIT SPECIAL OLYMPICS KANSAS
April 4, 2012
Anglers are invited to team up and fish for a cause April 20th
PRATT – It’s an angler’s dream: spend the day crappie fishing, compete with other anglers and help a good cause. The Special Olympics Kansas (SOK) will host a crappie tournament Saturday, April 20. The event will take place at Clinton Reservoir near Lawrence and is open to all anglers. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the SOK, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering intellectually disabled individuals through sports training and athletic competition.
Participants can compete individually or in two-angler teams and will weigh in their 10 biggest crappie. Prizes will be awarded to the top anglers, as well as for the largest crappie caught.
Participants sign-in from 5:30 a.m. - 6:30 a.m. and the tournament will run 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. A pre-registration fee of $80 per team is due by April 12, or teams can pay $100 the morning of the event.
The tournament is open only to boat anglers. For more information and to obtain a tournament registration form, waiver, and complete list of rules, visit www.ksso.org/events, or contact Kim Brice at (785) 424-0830 or [email protected].
Ragnar(Don) and I are teaming up again this year for this worthwhile event. If you get to registration early and hear a loud snoring noise coming from the marina area come wake us up.
I'm hoping that Arnies can get my motor running again today so I can still fish this tournament.
It died last Monday 1/2 way to the dam from the marina cove. I had to use my trolling motor to get back to my slip.
Plus I need to figure out a way to pull my pontoon out of the lake, to change the water pump impeller. The blue shack is on my trailer.
A friend helped me last Sunday morning install a new water pump kit that I bought from US Boat Works in KCK. The kit they sold me had 3 blades on the impeller but the one that was in my 1992 70 HP Johnson had 6 blades. Being a Sunday morning we went ahead and installed the 3 blade impeller kit, and tested it in the lake. The motor was peeing water so I thought all was okay. But on further research found out the motor had been upgraded to the 6 blade high volume pump before I bought it used 2 years ago and because of the upgrade it has different pressure springs in the thermostat that is to be used with the 6 blade pump.
I'm still going to try and get in the tournament on the 20th. The stator is bad on my motor so my pontoon has to go into Arnies shop for replacement.
I'm hoping to get it back in the lake by early next week so I can try and locate where the slabs are at.
Thanks to all of you for participating. I'm a retired LEO. My wife and I have been involved in the torch run and polar plunge for years. Catch lots of fish, be safe, have fun and thanks again!

What time is the weigh-in? Might stop by.
2:00 is the weigh in.
How did it go?
rough fishing day for most teams. with a 10 fish limit. 2 teams weighted in 9 fish each. Ron mendor and his partner was one of them. way to go Ron (2nd place). Shane and Jim Bybee finished 6th. nice job guys. we would have won it if capt dan would have brought in 4 15" fish. instead in wanted a 3 lb catfish instead. thanks Dan for a fun day on the water. fishing was diffently hard to get them to bite.
It is always so well run and organized. good food at the end, raffle and such, plus it is for a good cause
44 boats total.
thanks one and all who fished it for the great day out there.
Don
Congrats to Ron & Sean on 2nd place out of 44 boats :highfive....that's impressive on a tough day....of course Rons been doing that to Lee and I for years
It was a pretty slow day but for a good cause. I really had a good time watching Ron catch fish! He deserves all the credit, I was doing the fishing and he was doing the catching!
sorry Ozark 88 i couldn't remember who Rons partner was. I hate getting old. Nice job and congrats again Ozark88.
Just was lucky to have the right bate at the right place, and a good parnter.
Good job Ron and ozark. Who won?
That's a good question fishless Dan, I don't remember!!!
Just got a text that goofy and goofier won. From my source, that would be Polter and Athon. Dam good fishers, can anyone corroborate that?
think that sounds about right
Did anyone hear what the 1st place team said when they where asked to share where, how deep and their style of fishing worked for them?
we were drifting channels with jigs 25fow 12 to 16 feet down
