Call me a liar or say I got friends in the know... I got 2 phone calls today from 2 totally opposite ends of spectrum that say Sardis will be 11" and 15.. One said 3 pole limit is coming too... Also heard there will be no more primitive weapon for deer.. Ain't saying its Fact or Fiction but these folks ain't got a clue bout who the other is, one is a co-worker and other is a MS resident..
I haven't looked for more new rules yet.
True facts, and old news.
Heard the same thing about primative weapons yesterday BLUE, but I didn't know if it was true or not.

Just my opinion, but there hasnt been a true primative weapons season since they came out with in line black powder rifles.

Fishing regs I have no idea about but the primiive thing just had one more step to become reality. I will be on private, weapon of chose once gun season opens though Jan 31, will stay the same on public land and you will have to still buy a primitive license in order to hunt during that season. Crossbow gonna be legal during bow season as well.
Did they say when for Sardis?

I looked on the website and the oiginal intent has been removed and a new one has not aken its place. Not sure what they will do, they can ammend the oiginal or issue another intent but there wasn't one finalized so its wait and see.
Agree with you Big H on the primitive season.
The only primitive now days is a bow.
3 rods a man,plus 11 inch / 15 keepers
was new to me. Guess it'll be cheaper to spider rig now. Limit of 15 is 15 whether you have ten or six out. Opinions are like .... everyone has one.
I've heard the 11/15, and 3 rods. Glad my house is close to Enid. :)

Can't believe that, as few as right years ago boats would be backed up waiting to launch up the hill at Teckville, the few weekends we would be down there. There's not an elected man or woman working for the MDWFP. No government here. I'll have to speak up for the MDWFP here. These guys and gals are professional folks that put a lot of time and effort into conserving the resources of our state. The commissioners are appointed by the State's top elected official, and they are the ones who get beat up by sportsmen and businessmen when it comes regulation changes and or proposals. The department survives on what revenues they get from permits, license, fines,and grants, or donations. Some of the wardens can get out of hand once in a while, but the ones at the top are dedicated folks who have their job at heart. I probably stand to be corrected on some of this, but it is an honest mistake.Quote:

Is it catching or keeping fish that's the most important to you? I much prefer to catch'em. What we have to fish for in future years means more to a lot of us old birds. It would not bother me to see the creel limit set at zero for a year if it was thought this would preserve the lake for future generations, but that would be a slow death to the local economy.
Catching and keeping fish is important to me. Have been going down with a group for 15 years (sometimes multiple trips per year), we enjoy catching, keeping, and frying these big fish. The fishing was best 10+ years ago when it was 30 & 10" and it was also when the lake seemed to have the most pressure. If i wanted to catch and release i would be a bass fag. The gov. caved to a vocal minority and made the limits more restrictive, trust me they won't ever loosen the strings. If they do I will meet you at the ramp with a case of beer
I'm sure the commissioners were bombarded with requests from all quarters and listened to various biologists' recommendations. That would be a lot of folks staring at them. Then you throw in Mother Nature and the Corp of Engineers, there is no way for everyone to win. Somebody is gonna come up short somewhere.
I understand that you aren't going to make everyone happy. I just don't remember there ever wing a problem. Some years we did great, some years no so ugh. The lake always seemed to come back. My prediction is that the number of people fishing will decrease, the number of 9" fish dramatically rises, and we start going to Reelfoot
Would not hurt my feeling if you went to reelfoot. I've been fishing the lake for 20 yrs. pressure has gotten worse every year and trolling has become the popular method. Before the 12 inch rule Sardis was a dink hole. In the past 5 yrs I have caught my best fish ever on Sardis. The state is making these rules to protect a great class of fish that are between 13 and 14 inches right now. And for your comment on the fish overpopulating is retarded. It's a watershed lake!! Thousands of fish go through the spillway every year. The watersheds will never be overpopulated because of the size and spillway.
They need to leave it at 12". When they went from 10" to 12" I was upset also but after watching the boats ramp empty every year and watched these 9" fish jump over 12" finally I couldn't be any happier. The 15 limit will keep some from coming to sardis when you can go to the other 3 and keep 20. My biggest question is why 11". That makes no sense whatsoever. If someone knows or knows someone who knows please explain 11". Sardis is a big fish lake now it worked. Next time there is a meeting on these subjects please post it here and let a variety of people go to these meetings. The only reason I see them changing the 11" is because of a bunch of women were complaining on having to throw back a fish 12" and shorter. Now you watch those same women will be on sardis with there limit of 15 and when they have that limit in about 2-3 hours they will still be fishing culling out those 15 for a bigger stringer full. Those culled and threw back will be a waste.
The meetings were posted on this board and several folks from here went. I am OK with the new rules. Only thing that I don't understand is the pole limit....That just dosent make any sense.....What differance does useing three poles per person make? A limit of 15 is a limit of 15 whether you use one pole or 30.Quote:

My reply is only about releving pressure on all the big 4 not just Sardis.I don't fish alot mabey 10 times a yr. and like everybody else I like catching big fish but I fish for meat.I would'nt mind 20 fish limit,12 inch but only 1 can be 2lb's or better I don't know how many inches that would be.I'm not gonna bash anyone's fishing style but go to single pole only you guy's that troll or gonna get me but your limit is a limit don't get it.Your style of fishing greatly increases your odd's of catching a limit over single pole catching a limit.I have'nt been crappie fishing that long mabey 10yrs but spent alot of time at the lake I have seen the pressure blow up since trolling became poplar down here.Use to be the ramp's at Grenada would be mostly empty even durning the spawn,then thru the summer all you saw were a few people mostly old men single poleing around the standing timber.
I know some guys that single pole all summer and they catch limits pretty often. Donnie (crappielogic) is one of them. I also know some folks that long line troll with one pole in their hand and they are very successful also

I love to jig in the spring and troll the rest of the year. I also use yoyo's and trot lines. I will bass fish and go after catfish. I like doing it all. So for those guys that strictly jig fish and gripe about trollers then they need to change the game. Sink some crappie condos in the deeper water levels and jig it when it's hot and cold they would catch crappie. Or go at night with a light same thing there going to have to change up if that's there passion. Lay off the other fishermen. Limit is a limit no matter how you get it.
