Hey guys,
I am having a hard time interpreting what my fish finder is showing on the screen. My fish finder is not a side scan or 3d model but is color. Can someone post some pics of what bait fish and crappie look like on the screen?

Youtube is your friend. Lots of vids on how to read a sonar unit. You can spends hours looking at them and it will help even if its not your unit they are showing.

I really like this screen shot. What is the difference between the top part that is color and the bottom that is black? The top one shows fish icons and the bottom one shows just spots.

I believe that yellow glob is structure (brush pile/stump). Bait fish would be above the fish. The red from what I've seen on you tube is more solid. Example, the darker the red the harder the bottom is, therefore it's most likely a clay bottom. Just my opinion from You Tube vids. The problem I have, is what my FF is showing. Is that actually whats there?! I guess I don't have the confidents in what it's showing. ESPECIALLY when I'm not catching fish.

the top half is 2d the bottom half di. i dont no what the structure is exactly but i was catching a whole lot of 8 to 9 inch crappie there. those specs that are showing on the di are most likely those crappie.i took this picture as i was leaving this spot. all the crappie that i caught here were released so i believe thats the fish showing in the picture. there was so many fish there that i would either get a hit or catch a fish ever cast.http://i826.photobucket.com/albums/z...-di-s00158.jpgQuote:
