Depends on whether you like ford or chevy.
lol i was afraid of that. which one do you run?
These topics almost always get heated and crappiepappy has to step in and tell us to cool it.
We have had relative peace here for some time. Been nice.
Generally the 'bird is the word. However I think the 12" would be pretty durn neat and if money isn't a concern the larger screen would be nice. I really love the touch screen function on the new units too. It's like having an ipad bolted on your boat. I'm not sure about the weight of it given the thin profile vs others because I know one of the local boat companies had mentioned they were unsure how well it'd work in a ram mount since the 10" units have alot of bounce and vibration to them.
:popcorn:popcorn:popcorn:popcorn:popcorn:popcorn we need the chicken man:Rofl
lol i'm not looking for a fight here. I promise. Just some help.
Thanks, wood_duck. I haven't thought of the ram mount/weight thing. i guess i would figure something else out as far as mounting if i had to.
We're all pretty tame here...most of the time....:biggrin
Your decision should be partially based on features offered/hardware needed...(among other things)...
The Touch 12 is going to give GPS / 2d / with the following base hardware...:
*1 head unit
*1 xducer (2d)
*additional LSS xducer needed for SI / DI (dedicated DI crystal)
The 1198 is going to give GPS/ 2d / SI / DI (computer generated di) with the following base hardware...:
*1 head unit
*1 external GPS puck
*1 xducer
The Touch 12 is more screen customize-able...
The Touch 12 is capable of "video in"...
The HB can be expandable into Cannonlink, iLink/iPilot, 360 imaging...
Both are expandable into weather modules and AIS...(I think)...
There's probably other stuff I failed to mention....(someone will remind me I'm sure)...
Don't get caught up into the "my images are better than your images" debate....
Everyone's eyes are different...everyone perceives image clarity different....
(The Lowrance has an advantage of DI images from a dedicated crystal...HB's is computer generated)
Customer service should be a non-topic anymore...both have good stories - bad stories....(good stories rarely get published -bad stories always do)
Decide your future expand-ability possibilities....

Slight correction to Rickie, HB doesn't sell the XM weather puck anymore. You will have to buy a used puck or find a dealer that still has some in stock.
If this thread stays off the image perception, it just might make it without too much heat.
good post -rickie :ThumbsUp
Thanks for the info Rickie. Thats the stuff I am looking for!
I have the terrova with ipilot, is there an advantage with either of these units or cons as far as transducers or other options and the terrova?
One big thing is with the 'bird you can take advantage of the new ipilot link if that interests you. Its nice but at almost twice the price of the regular ipilot it don't interest me all that much.
i'll take a look at that feature, but to be honest I'm leaning towards the lowrance.
Tough call now that Lowrance has internal SI/DI capability with internal GPS. Low also have native NMEAK 2000 networking.
Big advantage Humminbird on the Terrova is you with the supplied HDSI transducer. The HB HDSI transducer cable can be routed down the Terrova shaft's groove which is a big thing. Lowrance transducer cable is too large a diameter.
With the Terrova and using the built-in US2 sonar, then no advantage either way.
The HDS12 Touch sure is nice.
The transducer for the hds 12 is for di and Si or what?
the HDS12 Touch is awesome - was using one this past weekend!
I have had both Low and HB. There is no pleasing me. I am a button pusher, not a brand man.
I have own the Lowrance HDS 10 Gen 2 LSS-2 and Humminbird 1198c but sold these two not too long ago. My HDS 12 touch arrives at my house tomorrow and I cannot wait. I feel like a kid right now getting new toys.
