Should we ban folks on public assisstance from playing lotteries and casinos? If the money we are forking over to help them live and eat is being wasted on gambling is it wrong?

Without a doubt, they should also pee in a cup once a month.
I agree, folks who receive public assistance should not be permitted to gamble with that or any other money they might have, if they have money to buy lottery tickets then maybe we are giving them too much assistance... I do object to the drug test though, there are a good many folks who think these people should be drug tested, it bothers me that we are giving money to people who don't need it and if that is the case why do they have to fail a drug test in order for us to take it away... What do we do if they fail a drug test, take their assistance away? If we take food stamps away from somebody with kids or somebody in a wheel chair where does that leave the kids and the folks who are disabled, I'm sure every disabled person out there can't pass a drug test and I doubt we want the streets full of disabled folks because they failed a drug test, people don't just go away simply because you evicted them from their home.
As long as it is required procedure to pee in the cup to keep a job, so should it also be required to pee in the cup for the freebies. Kind of like no pass no play.
I realize this is too simple.
Yep , yep, and yep
This post reminds of one a guy from Cali posted last year on rzr forum. It stated an article about people using there welfare cards on cruise ships and casinos. The state could actually track them, it it was in the millions that was being spent on these by welfare recipients in Cali .... Sad were our tax dollars go
You guys gave your opinion about drug testing folks but you declined to give your opinion about what we should do with the kids of those who lose assistance and what should we do with the disabled folks who lose their assistance, you can't just say take the assistance away without having an answer as to what we do with them after they lose their assistance... it's easy to say 'take the assistance away' then shut your mouth and turn your back but that's not the end of the story, these folks don't just magically go away, they are still around, just living and starving in the street... Some of you are quite adamant about your stand on abortion but seem to be willing to starve the kid after it is born... As far as restricting someone from having kids, would you be advocating our government force sterility on somebody? Seems to me you same guys have your shorts in a wad over the government infringing on your gun rights... Does that mean your rights are more important than the next persons?
Is government assisted living a right in the constitution ? Some people have earned this assistance and some have learned it. I think it is right to help those in need but some of this is plain abuse and a burden to tax payers that is unnecessary . We have a casino close to us and it booms the first of the month when people get there checks, sad to say but these people are probably not taking care of there bills or kids. The same can be said of drug addicts all we are doing is enabling them, not helping them.:twocents
Uhh if they are gambling or drugging the money away the kids are not getting any of the benefits they were supposed to get. Take away all cash and supply them with beans, rice, flour, oil, salt and pepper. You want meat, get a job. You want to gamble, get a job. You want to be a crackhead, do us all a favor and overdose. And yes I know I am not PC!

I agree, there is a lot of abuse in the system and it galls us all, nobody likes driving past park benches full of welfare losers on his/her way to work but until we come up with a better way of dealing with it than the one we got, I don't know the answer but throwing disabled folks and kids out in the street certainly doesn't seem like the right one to me.

I agree 100%... I don't have a bit of problem with the commodity system... It supposedly cost more than the card system used now so I don't know if that is the answer but I agree with you...
Only problem I have with "want meat, get a job", disabled folks don't have that option and neither do the kids of losers parents.... All are not born with an equal ability to provide for themselves as others might be.
You full of your self len.......
Funny how some of us old folks managed thru life all hell and high water without govt handouts. Govt has robbed folks of their will or instinct to survive with foolish handouts. Gimmie, gimmie,
gimmie, gimmie, etc.
Stay out of my henhouse.
You know going back to the commodity system mite be feasible. I know a local store that gave 60 cents on a dollar for food stamps a few yrs back. I'm sure he's still manipulating the system some how....
God forbid they would just have to go out and EARN a living. I not talking about people who get assitance who need it, I talking about the people we are reffering to in this subject. Its kinda like that thing we all heard growing up, my house, my rules, if you don't abide, you can get out. Its simple really.
There's certainly a wide range of government assistance. Just like every person that's commented on this topic, assistance recipients cover a wide variety of individuals. No one wants to starve anyone, well, maybe one or two, but anyway....
How about we just employ welfare police? Shouldn't be any different than a parol officer. You obviously cannot make it on your own, so you will have to relinquish some or your rights until you prove that you can be an asset to society. And yes, you'll have to pee in a cup.
As far as what happens from there, carry out laws that are already in place. If someone refuses to make decisions for the well-being of their children, then that's neglect and should be removed from the home. I would stand to say that many children have a better chance when they're educated by someone who cares half as much as they hoped their parents would.
Bush's fault, we know Beave. Go find your rock.
Wait a minute now!! Wouldn't this be Gov intervention???????:dono Aren't you the ones that want LESS Gov. But now you want more Gov. :banghead I am getting a headache trying to keep up with you guys on what you want and what you don't want!!! nonono :biggrin EB
Nope, how would you police it? Just another Government intrusion and another freedom lost. I don't see banning them as fixing a problem. The problem stems from whether the person truly deserves to be on public assistance.
Those of you who think a ban should be made, the power of the Government only grows bigger with each intrusion. What's after that? Drug test-absolutely!
What's your solution Reaper?

Excuse me, but who and what are the "ones" you speak of? If you think I'm a straight line Republican you're sorely mistaken. I'm not a sheep and I don't care to be boinked like one.
Now, re-read what I've highlighted in red. Don't cry bully when you bring this upon yourself...
Stop giving them things like checks and cash. Put it all on plastic that can only be redeemed for food items, no beer, cigs, pop, candy, junk food, etc. Rent should be streamlined with the property owners. Turn the takers into existoids. They get nothing but the minimum, no more, no less. Smart meters for their power in their homes or apartments, NO thermostats, single control units only. Set to 80 for hot weather and 65 for cold weather. Hot water tanks set to warm, water metered on a per person basis. Home phone only, no cell phones. No cable, dish, computers, internet, nada, zip, zilch. Give em free bus passes to get around.
You gonna live on the government dole? If you're not completely, physically unable to manuever, and you collect everything you get from the Government, you might be an EXISTOID.
And the single most important thing I would do would be to DENY THE RIGHT TO VOTE!
Anything else I can do for you?
By the way, I just coined the word....Existoid. Thoughts?
That's why I asked, I guessed you had some thoughts on it! I agree with you 110%!! If that doesn't motivate them nothing will.
DENY THE RIGHT TO VOTE!
YEP, I can see that.
Alright! No voting for poor people! Wait, are we talking about US citizens? Well, we do it for felons, so it must be Constitutional for poor people, too!
We can just repeal all those pesky Amendments that deal with voting (birth, race, color, previous condition of servitude, sex, failure to pay poll tax or any other tax, age..). While we're having those Constitutional Conventions, we can maybe strike down some of those other rights, too, just until they get jobs. Poor people can't own guns. Poor people can't speak freely or assemble.. etc.
I can tell you what I did. I have spent close to $5000 in the last year proving to the judge that my own son and the waste of humanity he shacked up with are not fit to be parents. I have permanant custody of my grandkids. The results? My son has cleaned his act up and is now working to pay his part of the court ordered child support and does not receive any assistance. He attends church weekly and has helped me with my parents move from Texas to Arkansas. The mother on the otherhand has not seen or spoke her kids since May because she can't pass the imposed 2 month drug free test we placed on both of them. Because she dosen't have the kids anymore, SHE HAS LOST ALL ASSISTANCE. I don't know the $$$$, but, now there are at least two druggies that my (and yours) tax dollars do not support.
Before this, I was buying them groceries because the aide they received from you and me went to drugs and alcohol.

There is NO RIGHT TO VOTE Scout. At least on the Federal level.
