your committee should rename to northcentral ar.crappie club, since they handed picked all of yalls favorite lakes and did'nt take any consideration for other lakes in the state and for the fisherman in all other areas of the state!!the closet drive for me would be a four hour round trip and thats just to conway !! so i think if yall what this to really work the whole state needs to be included and not just the 4 or 5 lakes yall fish 3-5 times a week !!! i would like to see these fj. tour. work like the ones in ms. do they have great turnouts but they fish the WHOLE state !! just my opinion !!!!!
Wut meatgetter said!
If you can set up a tournament in your area I will add it to the schedule! This is our first go at it and I want to see what interest everyone shows so input will be great. I know several months back you started a thread about getting a few tournaments going so if you can help that will be Great! We really want to expand our area of lakes we talked about doing Greeson or Lake Pine bluff but we put it up for everyone to decide and we will see where we go. Last time I looked MS. Stayed west on the same 5 lakes each year not trying to be smart Alec just a fact. I enjoyed our visit at nimrod last year and hope to see you again and hope you can help me get some other lakes set up, getting this set up is a whole lot harder then you can imagine!
Jason
If you don't like it stay at home. If not show up and fish one or two and help these guys get this started. Give input and help it grow next year and spread out the lakes a little. It's really hard to start something like this from scratch and I commend the guys who are putting it together.

I will be at Dardanelle and Nimrod. Thanks for putting together!!!
Guys I have to agree with what has been said. IMO people from all over the state should be involved and the tournament lakes more diverse. Most of the lakes are you guys home lakes. Instead maybe the name should be changed to nwa. The pine bluff pool is one where a lot of lunkers come from too and also Dumas pool. What about Greeson, ouachita, or lake chicory, grand lake. No south Arkansas lakes are included! If the name of the club is "arkansas". I would think it needs to fish arkansas more diverse. Also there aren't any east arkansas lakes included. Maybe good intentions but that is not the way this is being perceived IMO.
P.s handi it ain't moaning just giving constructive criticism. There are no lakes in your area of the state. Wouldn't you rather fish one of them?
Jason I think it's a great start! Good job buddy. Atleast you made the effort no one else has.
I agree with you handi looks like people want to gripe instead of help! It takes a ton of work to put this together and get it going. We really apreciate all the work you have put into this Jason! If you want one closer to your area vote on it he has some lakes in a few different directions up to vote on. You have to start somewhere! If y'all can put in some information on some other lakes I'm sure he won't mind working them in there next year. Agin Jason thank you for all the work you have done!
Bowhunter, I don't know why you said "NWA". None are in NWA, but I will drive 2-3 hours down the hill to fish. If you all want a lake in your area, then step up and host it or work with a group to host it.
Definately a good start all these lakes are close to me so no griping here... what about maybe having a tournament or two in like a certain region like henry gray hurricane wma or felsenthaw or something like tht where there would b multiple small lakes to fish? Jus a thought might b too much to deal with tho... i think it would b neat to have one on a smaller lake and jus pile in there and fish where we could really see how those crappie masters r yankin them slabs in and maybe do a lil watch and learn for amateurs like me lol
This is a first year deal and a trial run deal. The people putting this together are from the central area of the state and have picked great crappie lakes to fish. Yes they are centrally located this year but maybe that's because these guys are the ones that will be doing all the work for these tournaments. Ex: meet and great, registration, weigh in. Give them a chance to succeed before you tell them why they will fail. Only fish a couple this year but let them know that you would support the effort to a greater extent if the lakes were more diverse. There are no crappie lakes in NE worthy of a tournament so there won't be anything close to me regardless. There is a time for constructive criticism and its not the time yet. From my knowledge these guys putting this on are doing so because they want the sport to grow. Not to ostracize or create an unequal playing field. Besides from the track records of the guys pushing to get this started they will out fish 99% of the people regardless where they fish. They already prove that with the big boys right now!!!

Welcome to the board Dustin...Glad to see you joining in... Jason good job...No worry's guys Im sure Jason will work to get tourney's in your respective area's. Good input's is where it all starts... to get it going. Here is mine...One Tourney in Central AR...One Tourney In West AR, One tourney in East AR, One tourney in SEA, One in SWA and One in NWA or N. Central. And a vote to decide a Championship Lake. The whole key to this working is someone stepping up... to be the Director of each area. So who is going to step up to be the Tourney Director for thier respective areas and what Lake/River area would you like to see fished based on a vote of the tourney directors peers for each area of the state. When this is decided a schedule should be compiled and then you have it. EveryBody should be HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY. JMO if we are going to run a statewide FJ trail. Tight Lines
I won't sit back and let Jason take all the heat for this association's rules and/or lake choices for the first year. Jason contacted me last year on this idea and it has been in work ever since. There has been a lot of time and money sank into this idea, for example $400.00 for a very high dollar certified weight scale and many miles driven securing weigh in sites while burning our own gas, etc.
The idea was to get it started and then to grow it across other regions of the state. Yes, as it stands right now, it is centered around the central part of the state or within 100 miles of Little Rock (Dardanelle being the farthest lake). We left the May date open and even suggested some lakes to the other regions (Pine Bluff, Heber, etc.) for members to vote on. This was intentionally done as we knew we could manage the weigh in sites and the extra work that goes on with putting one of these tournaments on without counting on someone to help us out.
If you notice, the championship is also TBD. This was also done intentionally as the idea was to let the more "frequent" participants choose a neutral lake where it would be held, meaning "leveling" the playing field.
Also, as we have done in the past, anyone placing in the top 3 of any of these tournaments are expected to tell the "How, Why and Where" they caught their fish before they are paid. This gives the rest of the participants a learning experience from their trip and advice on what they could try the next time they visit the lake.
This trail was not intended to be one sided at all. This was meant to be an activity to give us all something to do and meet up every now and then doing what we all like to do.
Final thoughts are that Jason posted his number at the bottom and asked to be called for any comments. How many of you called before you posted your thoughts? I think if you would have called Jason, he would have told you almost everything I'm telling you now and some of the misconceptions would have been cleared up.
The dates and lakes that were chosen are very good dates and coincide with some of the best fishing times for each lake in my opinion, except maybe the first date in February at Conway. I will go out on a limb here and say that Jason would be willing to give this date to another lake. So here's your chance, if you are one of the one's not liking the lakes chosen so far, step up and take this date. Call myself or Jason and let us know your lake choice and where YOU will be hosting the registration, weigh in and awards.
So, instead of bringing negativity to something that was meant to be fun, pick the phone up and call and lets discuss. As always, if I can help anyone out on anything, please don't hesitate to call me.
Good luck when the tourney gets to represent arkansas lakes then I will fish. Just my opinion take or leave as we are all entitled to one last time i checked. I hope it does well as i said. I still think the tourney lakes dont represent Arkansas which what the associations name states. They are located in close proximity whether that is recognized by anyone else or not. Yes you have to get a start somewhere and if they want to extend south be glad to help.

well guys I don't have a dog in this hunt but hope to one day fish some of these. I am a president of my local bass club and let me assure you setting the schedule is not easy. I always do it with a couple things in mind , one what lakes will draw the most particapation ,those are the ones most centrally located for my core group of fisherman . Two what lakes are the most productive , so anglers all catch fish and have an enjoyable time . Now with that said , just because I may want us to fish let's say greers in april doesn't mean it can happen with other tournaments going on and getting approvals from the park or COE. Work with these guys to make this year successful and I promise they will work with you to find lakes all are happy to go fish. I never get paid for my efforts but sure get bitched at and it isn't fun. I never base my decisions on what I like but what I believe is best for the organization and I think thats what they are trying to do. Hope to meet all of you and fish a few some times. Good luck and I hope you have a wonderful year.
This comment was unnecessary. The purpose of this thread and the undecided dates was to gather ideas and suggestions that will create an event that everyone can live with. I am in Central Arkansas and couldnt be happier with the locations stated, as Conway is my home lake. But I feel that the locations should be diversified to accommodate everyone. We shouldnt lash out at someone for voicing their opinion.
C.J.
Should be a good turnout for the Dardanelle tournament on April 20. Many of the folks from this site will be there for the Spring Camp.
Like Fathfularchery who has one of the if not the best bass club in Arkansas "because he works at it" I Don,t have a dog to hunt either enjoy fishing not competeing.Have some great crappie legends on this site!!! May need to have a north and south crappie club with the Arkansas river being the line for north and south then meet in the middle (Arkansas River) area for final fish off!!! With gas prices, its hard to travel very far to fish without sponsers and they are hard to come by theses days with all the cut backs!!!!
Everybody just calm down, this is the third year for the Arkansas Board to try and start a local tourney. Let's give this a chance before we throw it out the window. The first year Mississippi had their FJ tournaments they were all in North Mississippi on the Big 4. Since then they have added Washington, Eagle, and Ross Barnett. They still don't have anything South of I 20 or in Eastern Mississippi. I applaud Jason and Dennis for their time and effort.
Well glad to see some folks saw my post as useful information. I can say that anyone knows me i joke and kid around but will also vocalize an opinion right or wrong to those hearing it. Take and use constructive criticism which thats what mine was intended as because many folks are too intimidated to say something. I am not here to bash the idea or put it down. I made valid observations and points. Take it or leave it as i have no dog in this. Was offering opinions to help make it better and allow more opportunities for the people of the whole state to participate and have a tourney closer to everyone and not just the folks who created it. I totally understand having the first couple close to the originators of the club and their home lake but after the first few i still stand that spread out around the state.
The idea of a north and south club may be a good one if the southerners must travel always north.
Good luck as I will not post on this again as i have said what I feel is appropriate and further discussion i would view as griping myself.
Good luck!

Im jus ready to hand over my $60 and hopefully learn how to catch sum crappie and maybe next year i can win sum money back!! Iv never fished dardnelle or conway so i will b completely lost so any tips on where to start would b appreciated and do yal guys spider rig in conway? From the way yal talk the image in my head of conway is one big stump hole with a few creeks in it.. anybody tht would b willing to show me around i would really appreciate. Im used to fishing small oxbows so im lookin forward to the challenge of fishing a lake thts more than 15 ft deep lol
Moved everybody's post to here and locked the rules thread.
Your impression of Conway is correct! You can spider there, but use heavy line and light hooks! Oh, and there isn't a 15 ft deep hole anywhere on Conway. There are plenty of shallow bays and coves on Dardanelle that should be full of spawning Crappie during the time of the Spring Camp/Tournament.

Thanks Jason for stepping up, I think it will be a great success. Opposition will always come so let the bawl bags cry and just go on with your plan. The real fisherman that have confidence in themselves will be there.
When they announced a tournament on Dardanelle the other year I had never crappie fished on the lake but I put my time in and found fish and did well in the tournament.
Jason it doesn't matter to me where you have the tournaments I will pre fish and do well. So just know that there are some people out here that are in support of what you are doing. Thanks for your time and efforts.

Great job Jason and Dennis!!!!!
For the northeast region, Horseshoe Lake is about the only fishable place that might have enough room. There are no facilities for meetings (registration) and only a grass parking lot area for weigh ins. I'm sure you want something with a few more accomodations. I have to agree with Handi, the northeast corner is a little limited in fishing places for events like this.
I agree with the northeast corner, it has limited fishing when you get past Augusta or so. And I think we need at least minor accommodations like a weigh in site. The scales can be run off batteries so no problem there.
What about Taylor's bay???

" I applaud Jason and Dennis for their time and effort."
I am planding on fish what I can and will do all i can to help out. But would like to fish all over out state too.
I have never fished Taylor Bay. Only been on Hurricane WMA once. I tend to stay along the Mississippi River down to Snow Lake with the exception of fishing on Greers Ferry and some on Norfork.
Maybe someone else knows something about it.
Taylor bay has plenty of room and it has sum absolute hogs there... theres plenty of parking room and they also have a fish cleaning station tht could b used for weigh in site
Well, 27 post before noon on this subject and when I go out of my way to answer the publics request to have more of the state covered, especially down south, everyone's computers and phones stop working....... No one has stepped up and offered to help with a tournament down there........Amazing.

Well guys thank you for the comments! I guess there is a little issue with what we have purposed here I guess lake Pine bluff or Greason is not far enough south so what about mill wood, Dierks, Degray, Cane creek, Chicot?? Someone that can help with any of the south lakes let me know I'm up for any help I can get. I work 65-70 hours a week and have not been home a weekend since November with my other job Duck Guiding so as you can tell I'm stretched very thin and all I'm trying to do is get tournaments around Arkansas! If its going to cause to much drama I will just X the idea I have plenty to do this spring with the 9 national tournments I'm fishing in. One of my main goals if you know me is to help others learn and do better in the crappie fishing world so work with me not against me and we all can keep This fun and educational!! Please feel free to give me a call 501-231-5762 7am-9pm
Thank you
Jason
Carol and I will come and fish if any of those scheduled end up on a weekend I'm not on call. We only fish 1 person at a time. Can we get a discount on the entry fee. I can hardly wait to give Dennis and Jason W (aka Dale Jr.) a good ole fish whupping on a lake in their area.
Good job trying to get something together on this.
