Top right = drunk sailor with a camera?
looks like you got the gps puck with heading sensor
Thanks kosmo...
I may not be getting the 360 ...
But I will be testing the AS GPS HS as soon as I can get one...
Rickie
the as gps hs seems to work pritty good. i marked a waypiont and trolled to it at speeds of 0.01 to 0.02 then i would come to complete stop then i ease along again. youall like it.
In my mind, all indications are "indicating" this tool will satisfy (or at least benefit) slow trollers...
There's a lot more to slow trolling than just "forward movement of the boat at slow speeds"...
I will put together an "on the water" test to try and cover all aspects of slow trolling and/or spider rigging....
The problem with the HB Donut has never been about the "Donut"....it has always been about the "lack of boat direction/heading/course information" provided to the user at "slow trolling" speeds....
All 3 of those are different in their own respect when applied to slow trolling /spider rigging...
I have high hopes....:ThumbsUp
Rickie
To put it simply, the spinning charts make me dizzy.
Ricky add heading up to the test to see how steady the chart is. Course reading will always come from the gps, what should happen if backing up is the boat icon would be pointing forward and backing up to waypoint.
stymie, i tried both the north up and course up. the the north up f**** me up. i couldnt steer back to the waypiont.changed to course up,thats nice and really easy for me to navigate to the way point. the screen doesnot spin at speeds under 0.06 or even while at dead still. that wacky steering thats in that picture was when i was using the north up then towards the end i had changed to course up:crazy:
rickie, whats up with the pitch and roll. how will that help ? http://i826.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps53881f7f.png
Man i'd like to have one those antenna.....but i heard they where 2,000 dollars .......lol..................looks good
I could not find pitch and roll anywhere in the gps-hs or 360 manual. I assume you found those looking through digital read out menu?
If you are using North up, try splitting the screen with the compass and use GOTO. Just follow the arrow. The arrow knows. Takes you to what you select. Don't cut across land though.nonono
Remember Red Right Returning.(RRR) The red buoy is on the extreme right of the channel when going upstream. When returning, keep to the right of the red markers. Lernt this in the Navy.
Also, if you have specific waypoints that you like to troll in certain areas, make a route ( or several routes) from the waypoints then do a GOTO route function. Works pretty good. Forgot to mention this feature. Try it. I am not sure of Humminbird, but HDS allows you to track from start or track from end of the specified route. Ain't used a HB in some time and can't remember. If you are using HDS, highlight the compass page so to keep GOTO and CANCEL on display.
Fill me in, Might but another HB if this donut fix is in.
I'm still looking for this in the manual...so I gonna make a guess here...
"Pitch" is side to side rocking..."roll" is front to back rocking....
Either of these 2 wave actions would probably cause distortion in the 360 because of it being mounted on a "Stick" attached to the boat...
On "Big Water" (ocean)...these can be constant over a long period of time...
I'm guessing that these 2 settings allow the user to set in a value equal to the degree of the "pitch" or "roll" to compensate for this "constant measurable rocking motion" of the boat...
Small water like we normally fish have waves but they are not constant over a long period of time so I'm not sure small water fishermen would ever use this...
Maybe Greg or someone will have a more definite answer...because I'm just guessing at this point until I can find documentation...
Rickie
Ordered my fancy new AS GPS HS puck this morning. As I mentioned a few months ago, this one is going on the bow. The puck currently on the bow is going on my kayak.
Digital compass has 3 axis. Pitch, roll and yaw. Just like and airplane gyro.
HMC5983 -TR - HONEYWELL M&PS - 3-AXIS DIGITAL COMPASS IC, TAPE | Newark
Lost my connection.
Gyro compass is not affected by the earths magnetic field though.
You only have to buy 4000 of them to get each for a 1.38. I'd rather spend 638.40 on this DRM4000L-N00-232 - HONEYWELL M&PS - POSITION MAGNETIC MODULE, 2.8 | Newark and add my own gps.
That is just a picture of a compass IC. Takes more than that IC to make a compass.
Yes, very interested in J1 pin 8 Data to GPS receiver from DRM.
So is the roll and pitch adjustable or just digital read out?
All I remember about a 3 axis compass is that it keep things level with respect to the horizon. Anyone who has flown in a modern aircraft has seen the black/white world with respect to horizon or maybe seen a gyrocompass on a ship. Same principal.
Sorry I meant the question to Ricky, the pitch and roll boxes in that screen shot look like HB digital readouts not menu settings.
I don't know Jim....kosmo has the 360....I do not...(maybe kosmo can see if there is a changeable setting in the 360 menu tab)...
I was kinda hoping Greg would chime in on this question as I only have access to the same PDF manual and installation guide that you were probably looking at...
(again, I'm just guessing as to the function of this pitch and roll in the 360 accessory)...
Rickie
I dont no.i was flupping through the readouts menu and came across them.
Sounds like pitch and roll in the 360 may just be a "Readout" instead of a changeable "Setting"..
kosmo...when you get a chance....go thru the tabbed menus and see if there is something in there relating to pitch and roll (other than pitch and roll readout)...
Rickie
last year, they came out with headup. it didnt do anything differently than cousrse up. now we know it was for the new puck. my guess isthis pitch and roll is for a future accessory.
Pitch and roll data is common for this type of compass. I think they output it just because it is there and easy.
I would guess that pitch and roll play a part in horizontal stabilization of the transducer view. With the boat bouncing around, the digital gyro probably stabilizes it view with respect to the horizon. Just like a platform gyro, except digital. MHO.
lol i love the pic, (drunk sailor) LOL i saw a couple of guys long line trolling and i saw this pic and bursted out in laughter.
I retract my above statement.
I have two 898's, both with the latest software update. One is connected to the new GPS puck with magnetic compass, the other to the old style GPS puck. The Pitch and Roll readouts are only available on the unit connected to the new GPS puck with magnetic compass. These read outs are not mentioned in the manual that came with the puck.
However, in light of their only being selectable with the new puck leaves me to agree with Carolina Jim and Cane Pole. I now suspect this is being used to help better mark spots with the 360.
Nice reading. Thanks
