I believe this will be the toughest FJ you guys have had. With the recent rains making Eagle tough and the MS river on a huge rise. Factor in a the first blue bird day after a week of storms the barometric pressure will be high. The crappie will be hard to catch! Who is going to have luck on their side this weekend. I believe seven fish will be hard to come by!
Very well could be the case, not seeing much rise in the river tho, it isnt any higher, maybe tenth or so, than it was when MCC was there weekend before last.
The forecast for Fri and Sat is sunshine and light winds. Of what a relief that is!!
It won't be a problem for DD and Team Cup
Rees not sure what river chart your looking at but the river will be about ten feet highher than it was for the MCC tournament. Its rising over a foot a day!

No way MCC would cancel as ya'll shouldn't! I wasn't wishing bad thoughts just discussing the conditions. I was actually going to fish it until I got a duck hunting offer I couldn't pass up.

Not from what I am looking at, whatever. Vicksburg gauge reported 20.82 Jan 5th and now reporting 21.36 so thats a half a foot.

I cross the river daily in Memphis. I do not know numbers but i can tell you the river has rose multi feet just in last two days.....
The guage I'm watching shows this:
VICKSBURG 20.9 +0.4 21.2 22.5 24.0 25.4 27.0
I was just going off memory what the stage was at the MCC tournament and I've never said my memory was the best!
The river is up just shy of 5' in the last 24 hours at Memphis. I wonder if all that water is headed south?
By the way we have had 3-4 inches of rain in three days i would think it would rise,kind of has no choice
I have been watching, looks like it just hasnt got down there yet but saw the forecast of 27 feet by Saturday.
Just wanted to be sure I was looking at the rite thing too.

Well i am sure they do. But snagging is an Art Form and hard to do then catching them in the mouth so who knows these daysQuote:

How many times have you heard that you can’t catch crappie on our Mississippi River oxbows when the water is coming up? Seems that’s been a rule since before I ever heard of Chotard/Albermarle/Tennessee, Ferguson, Old River or Tunica Cutoff lakes.
Don’t believe it, folks.
Crappie eat every day, and I believe that on some rising-water days, they actually bite better.
Sure, they may not be in the same place you caught them when the river level was steady or on the fall. But when you locate them, they will bite on high river rises — even when the river level is jumping over 2 feet a day. Trust me.
Recently, several of my Chotard buddies and I proved my contrary theory that rising water does not turn them off.
One of my best-ever three-day trips to Chotard was just before Christmas this past winter when the river went from 9 feet to 26 feet in 10 days on the Vicksburg river gauge.
Well, that's encouraging.

I've always had a tough time catchin fish on a big rise. I have caught em at culverts where the water had them stacked when they moved up tho.
How'd y'all catch em at Chotard on a big rise DD? Spider Rigging?

I didn't That was an article wrote by the past MCC president Paul Johnson. He's written a couple times about catching them on a foot or 2 rise per day of the river. Ima fish BOTH lakes Friday and figure out which one Ima fish Saturday. Since Nessa won;t be with me prefishing, I can fish from daylight til day. She wants to leave bout 2ish on prefish day LOL. SOMEONE better have me a green cup ready bout dark Friday night though hehe
I am not a Oxbow fisherman by no means but I do believe that this might take a big part in the tourney,,,, big rise in a short time big fish go shalllllllllowwwwww!!!!!!! Try it

Yep shallow and my opinion one pole and a jig when the tombigbee rises the fish get high up in the cypresses and you can kill em single poling they hold tight to cover when it rises too but thats a different place never layed eyes on eagle or chotard but im guessing they will be up shallow in the water column
They gonna be REAL TIGHT on cover I spect. Saturday will be the 2nd day of High pressure so it's gonna be interesting
